In Ghana, the denouncement of “selfish and irresponsible politics” has been a recurrent theme in political discourse, particularly when politicians or political parties are seen as prioritizing personal or partisan interests over the needs of the nation.

Ghana has faced instances of political practices that some consider to be selfish and irresponsible, especially when it comes to issues like corruption, mismanagement of public funds, neglect of important issues such as poverty reduction, and failure to honor promises made during campaigns.

Gospel star singer-songwriter, Uncle Ato has revealed that politics is about the welfare of the people and putting things in place to profit them.

He said this by decrying the popular form of politics where leaders’ only concern appears to be enriching themselves at the expense of the people.

He emphasized that he had no desire for such a form of governance.

Uncle Ato noted he had been engaged in student politics before.

The Onyame Be Hwe Wo (God Will Take Care of You) singer recalled when, “from 1998 to 2002,” on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) campus, Kumasi, Ashanti region, he served as a Students Representative Council (SRC) vice president.

“I began as a nonresident student rep before I became the general SRC vice president. I’ve done a bit of politics. It’s all about the welfare of the people, and having them deeply at heart.”

Moreover, Uncle Ato asserted that true religious people “must do two things: love God and love their country.”

He noted this was the commendation a Roman Centurion received in the Bible, Luke 7:5, for which he eventually received a miracle from God.

“There are Christians, Muslims, and others who [say they] love God but they don’t love their country. It’s not complete. There are others who are crazy about politics and out of passion behave like hooligans, all in the name of protecting the country.

“But if you fear God you won’t do those things. We need to bring these two together in good balance.”

According to the singer-songwriter, netizens won’t be corrupt in government or wherever they’re placed, if they fear God.

“If you fear God and love your country, you won’t destroy our waterbodies [via illegal mining/galamsey]. We need to love God and love our country.”

Uncle Ato

He said he did not expect this quality of only politicians but also the citizenry.

“Civil servants, entrepreneurs, teachers, etc. Wherever you are, we must show we love God and our country. This will cause growth, sustainability, and prosperity for all of us in this country.”

He rebuked poor sanitary habits like pushing rubbish into gutters expecting the rains to carry them away, and littering the streets.

Uncle Ato on Secret to Success

Gospel star Uncle Ato, born Alexander Bruce-Ghartey, spoke on the secret to his success.

According to the ‘Dzi Dew’ hitmaker, the “open secret,” was his faith in God.

“Prayer, hard work, holiness, fasting, do these things in proper balance and God will give you success. Even faith as small as a mustard seed is enough. God is not looking for any outrageous things.”

Uncle Ato

The ‘beloved’ worship leader said unlike what some Gospel singers say, he had never climbed a mountain to pray or fasted for 21 days “looking for a song”.

“I fast but it is the regular one I do. If God brings a song during this period, I keep it. I don’t pray for a song. I go about my normal walk with God; my normal devotions, prayer, and fasting. If a song comes, I write or record it. And when I want to make an album, I go into the archives.”

Uncle Ato

The award-winning singer-songwriter explained that he doesn’t climb the ‘Atwea’ mountain in search of a hit song.
