Actor turned politician John Dumelo has announced the passing of his father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr, who unfortunately died on January 3, 2025.
In an emotional social media post, Dumelo recounted his final moments with his father, revealing that their last conversation occurred just hours before his passing. “At age 75, you lived your life well,” Dumelo wrote.
“Yesterday you called me several times to come see you. We sat on the bed and spoke at length about politics, life, farming, and business, and of course, we gossiped. We spoke about my swearing-in in three days, and you told me specifically to serve diligently in government.”

Dumelo shared the heart-wrenching events that followed shortly after their conversation.
“Ten minutes after I left your house, I was called and told you were not being responsive. I came back, we rushed you to the hospital, and you were gone.”

Expressing deep gratitude and admiration for his father, Dumelo described him as his best friend, greatest cheerleader, and an unwavering source of support.

The loss comes at a pivotal time in Dumelo’s political journey.
As the newly elected MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo recently secured a victory over the incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a margin of 2,200 votes. He garnered 34,800 votes, while Alhassan received 32,600.
As Dumelo prepares for his swearing-in ceremony in three days, his father’s parting advice to serve diligently in government will undoubtedly guide him in his new role.

John Dumelo’s wife, Gifty Mawunya Nkornu, reacted to the death of her father-in-law, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo.
He passed away yesterday, Friday, January 3, 2025, on her birthday.
In an emotional post on Instagram, the bereaved Gifty Nkornu questioned why her father-in-law would die on her birthday.
She was distraught that her father-in-law had not seen his son, John Dumelo, sworn in as a Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon.
