John Mahama Sworn in as President of Ghana

H.E John Dramani Mahama President of the Republic of Ghana

On this day January 7, 2025, John Dramani Mahama was officially sworn in as the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The solemn occasion, marked by grandeur and deep national significance, witnessed H.E John Dramani Mahama taking the Presidential Oath of Office.

Her Ladyship Chief Justice Sackey Torkornoo led President-Elect John Dramani Mahama through the Oath of Allegiance with these powerful words;

The Oath of Office

“I, John Dramani Mahama, do in the name of the Almighty God swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Republic of Ghana, as by law established; that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of Ghana, and that I will preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. So help me God.”

Administration of Presidential Oath

“I, John Dramani Mahama, having been elected to the High office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, do in the name of the Almighty God swear that I will be faithful and truthful to the Republic of Ghana; that I will at all times preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana; and I dedicate myself to the service and well-being of the people of the Republic of Ghana and to do right to all manner of persons. I further solemnly swear that should I at any time break this oath of office, I shall submit myself to the laws of the Republic of Ghana and suffer the penalty for it. So, help me, God.”

After taking the oaths, the Chief Justice congratulated H.E John Dramani Mahama officially confirming him as the President of the Republic. To finalize the legal process, John Dramani Mahama took the state sword and lifted it high, symbolizing his pledge to uphold the Constitution and serve the people of Ghana with integrity and dedication amid Jubilation and celebration from Ghanaians.

The event was held as a parliamentary sitting, following constitutional and parliamentary protocols. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of global dignitaries, highlighting Ghana’s significant standing on the international stage.

 In total, 21 Heads of State from Africa and beyond, three Vice Presidents, four former African leaders, and several Ministers of State from various countries were present.

The broad and prestigious attendance of these leaders underscored the global solidarity and esteem Ghana enjoys.

Members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, and thousands of enthusiastic citizens also participated, eager to witness this historic occasion.

The Presidential Oath of Office is more than a formality; it is a profound declaration of the President’s role as the guardian of the nation’s democratic ethos.

The oath-taking ceremony is a pivotal moment in Ghana’s political landscape, marking the peaceful transition of power and the reaffirmation of democratic governance.

 This notwithstanding, it also serves as a public declaration of the President’s dedication to upholding the rights and freedoms of every citizen, ensuring that his leadership is aligned with the nation’s constitutional values.

John Dramani Mahama’s oath-taking on January 7, 2025, was a momentous event that reaffirmed his role as a custodian of Ghana’s democracy and a servant of its people.

As H.E John Dramani Mahama embarks on this new term, the people of Ghana look forward to a tenure characterized by dedication, integrity, and unwavering service.
