Franklin Cudjoe on galamsey menace

Franklin Cudjoe, IMANI Africa

Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has highlighted an important lesson for politicians, emphasizing that no amount of legitimate or illegitimate wealth, or the support of influential allies, justifies complacency or abuse of power.

He stressed the importance of accepting constructive criticism, especially based on thorough public policy analysis and supported by quantitative and qualitative insights, often provided at no cost to those in power.

Cudjoe further urged that such feedback be seen as an opportunity for growth, rather than dismissed, as it contributes to better governance and informed decision-making.

“I have scanned dozens of Facebook posts of NPP leaning and NPP activists since yesterday, and I am wondering if you are all okay? As for me, it is not in my nature to revel in someone else’s misfortune”.

Franklin Cudjoe

Cudjoe remarked that at IMANI Africa, they identified the NPP’s looming challenges as early as January 2022.

He emphasized that they repeatedly warned the party, advising against a reckless path that seemed certain to lead to political downfall.

According to Cudjoe, the trajectory the NPP was on if left unchecked, would inevitably culminate in a disastrous outcome by December 7th, 2024, which he described as a “suicide street.”

Despite their clear and early warnings, the party chose to ignore the advice, setting the stage for the anticipated crisis.

“Both the driver and the mate were recklessly driving and we gave up. They were ghosts long ago. The final funeral rites were performed on December 7th.

“Well, in times of adversity, that little friend who tells you like it is, is the one who has your back. You still need friends who matter even if you hate their irritating competent guts”.

However, Cudjoe made it clear that he is not offering such support, in the form of advice, at this moment.

He stated that he is unavailable for any engagement and suggested checking back in 38 months.

Cudjoe Outlines Sustainable Initiatives for Growth Without Government Funds

Additionally, Franklin Cudjoe disclosed that he is currently reflecting on several critical initiatives and has tasked the IMANI Africa team with developing actionable strategies for their execution.

He emphasized that these plans should not depend on the government’s strained financial resources, but instead focus on creative and sustainable approaches that benefit everyone, particularly the citizens.

The key areas under consideration include formalizing the operations of galamsey miners to bring them into the legal fold, ensuring better regulation and environmental protection, and redesigning the cocoa value chain to improve efficiency, profitability, and sustainability within the sector.

Cudjoe also mentioned overhauling the LPG distribution network to enhance accessibility and reliability across the country and crafting a new national fisheries policy that addresses not only livelihoods but also the nutrition and long-term sustainability of marine resources.

“Mapping the night economy in selected high-impact sectors and geographies to identify areas of leverage where government intervention can transform production capacity. (I.e. understanding whether there are already some economic contexts where working overnight is somehow very critical for success and figuring out how to boost production in such sectors.) One example here could be IT companies that serve Asia.

“Research and policy innovation would be very crucial to understand and design measures to achieve any modicum of success if the 24-hour economy is going to bear any early fruits”.

Franklin Cudjoe

Franklin Cudjoe also indicated that exploring off-grid renewable energy solutions to foster small-town industrialization, which is crucial for supporting the 24-hour economy and reducing regional disparities is another area the IMANI Africa team is looking at.

Cudjoe stressed that if these initiatives are successfully implemented, they have the potential to generate significant positive outcomes for both Ghana’s economy and its citizens.

By fostering innovation and sustainable practices, these ideas could contribute to long-term growth, enhance economic resilience, and improve the overall well-being of the population.

He emphasized that such forward-thinking solutions could help address key challenges while ensuring a more equitable and prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
