Eduwatch Expresses Confidence in Newly Sworn-In Education Minister

Eduwatch Africa has expressed confidence that the newly sworn-in Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu’s, wealth of experience and dedication will greatly benefit the nation’s educational sector.

Eduwatch highlighted Hon. Iddrisu’s, extensive experience, noting that he has served as a student leader, government minister, parliamentary leader, and Member of Parliament. 

In a statement, the Education outfit indicated that over the past two decades, Hon. Iddrisu has been a steadfast advocate for social development, particularly in the field of education, within his constituency in northern Ghana.

Accordingly, Eduwtach warmly welcomed and extended their best wishes to the Minister of Education.

“Yesterday, His Excellency President Mahama swore in Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South, as Minister for Education. 

“Hon. Haruna Iddrisu becomes the 16th Minister for Education in Ghana’s 4th Republic. Notably, he is the first Education Minister hailing from northern Ghana, where educational disparities are particularly significant”.

Eduwatch further emphasized that, given his extensive background, they have confidence in Hon. Haruna Iddrisu’s deep understanding of the inequalities within Ghana’s education system, especially at the basic level.

They believe that his familiarity with the public sector, public policy, and the public finance system will enable him to address these challenges effectively. 

Eduwatch expressed optimism that his experience and insights will contribute significantly to the improvement and development of the nation’s educational landscape.

Eduwatch acknowledged his efforts in advocating for equitable access to quality education, which they believe will be instrumental in addressing systemic disparities and promoting inclusive growth.

Eduwatch also pointed out that Hon. Iddrisu’s comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of public finance will be crucial in ensuring the efficient allocation and utilization of resources within the education sector. 

They are confident that his strategic approach will facilitate the implementation of policies and programs that prioritize the needs of all learners, particularly those in disadvantaged regions.

Reforms Under Haruna Iddrisu’s Education Leadership Anticipated

Furthermore, Eduwatch Africa expressed their expectation that Hon. Haruna Iddrisu will leverage his leadership, experience, and influencing skills to drive significant reforms in the education system. 

The Education Policy Think Tank expressed confidence that the Education Minister will address critical challenges, such as the rural-urban divide in basic education and the issue of inadequate financing. 

Eduwatch Africa believes that Hon. Iddrisu’s strategic approach and deep understanding of the education sector will be instrumental in implementing effective policies and initiatives that promote equitable access to quality education for all students across Ghana.

Accordingly, the outfit expressed hope that Hon. Iddrisu’s efforts will lead to meaningful improvements and help bridge the gaps that currently exist within the system.

“As the leader of the government’s education re-set agenda, we expect the new Minister for Education to prioritize the core principles of equity in resource allocation, transparency, accountability, spending efficiency, and inclusive policy governance”.

In line with their commitment to improving the education sector, Eduwatch expressed their satisfaction in offering the necessary technical support and collaboration to ensure a successful tenure for Hon. Haruna Iddrisu as Minister for Education. 

They emphasized their readiness to partner with him and provide expert guidance to address the challenges facing the education system. 

Eduwatch highlighted their belief that through effective collaboration and shared efforts, significant progress can be made in advancing the quality of education in Ghana. 

They reiterated their dedication to supporting the new Minister in achieving his goals and driving meaningful reforms in the sector.

Meanwhile, other experts in the education sector have underscored several critical areas that demand immediate attention. 

These include the financing of public education, which remains a cornerstone for sustained improvements. 

They stressed the urgent need for infrastructure development to create conducive learning environments. 

Accordingly, the urged Hon. Iddrisu to provide lasting solutions to these issues, noting that prioritizing basic education should be a key focus as it lays the foundation for all future learning.
