Ghana has achieved a remarkable diplomatic feat at the recent African Union (AU) elections held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with all three of its candidates securing impressive victories.

This unprecedented accomplishment solidifies Ghana’s growing influence within the continental body and highlights the effectiveness of its foreign policy engagements.

The triumphant announcement was made by Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, who praised the country’s exceptional performance at the AU elections.

‘We made it! A 100% win for Ghana in Addis Ababa. Two more victories today. All Ghana’s three candidates have won big! So far, only Ghana appears to have achieved this feat”.

Among the notable winners is Ambassador Jane Gasu Aheto, who has been elected to serve on the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL).

Her appointment is expected to enhance Ghana’s role in shaping continental legal frameworks and strengthening international legal cooperation among AU member states.

Additionally, Lawyer Kwami Edem Senanu secured re-election to the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC), ensuring that Ghana continues to play a crucial role in the AU’s fight against corruption.

His reappointment signals confidence in his work and Ghana’s commitment to fostering transparency and accountability across the continent.

These latest victories follow the earlier landslide win of Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah, who was elected as a Commissioner at the AU. Her success marked a significant milestone for Ghana and set the stage for the country’s clean sweep at the elections.

Minister’s Congratulation Message

Hon. Ablakwa extended congratulations to the three accomplished individuals, emphasizing their dedication and commitment to Ghana and the AU’s broader objectives.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described Ghana’s 100% success rate as a significant moment in the country’s diplomatic history, showcasing its ability to navigate the complex corridors of AU politics with precision and influence.
