Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi has said in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi that China supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty and security and achieving a real ceasefire.
Wang repeated China’s earlier condemnation of the military strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran and thanked Tehran for its support in evacuating Chinese citizens in Iran. “Military strikes on nuclear facilities that are under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency seriously violate the purposes of the UN Charter and international law,” Wang added.
The comments by China’s top diplomat came after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran after 12 days of war.
During the phone call with Araghchi, Wang emphasized China’s commitment to supporting a true ceasefire, helping restore normalcy for affected civilians, and working toward a swift de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
He also said that China encourages the UN Security Council to fulfill its core responsibility of maintaining global peace and security.
Araghchi, in response, condemned the actions of Israel and the US targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling them serious breaches of international law that compel Iran to retaliate.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said that though Iran and Israel have agreed on a ceasefire, the situation remains unstable.
The truce, announced late Monday by President Donald Trump, remains fragile, with Iran and Israel accusing each other of breaching the agreement within hours of its announcement.
Expressing Iran’s desire to continue close coordination with China and welcoming a greater Chinese role in reducing regional tensions, he said that “real negotiations” can only begin once Israel halts its “aggression.”
Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian iterated that Iran will respect the truce with Israel as long as Israel does.
Pezeshkian also said Iran is open to dialogue and will protect the interests of Iranians at the negotiating table.
Meanwhile, Israeli affairs Analyst, Dan Perry predicted that Iran will soon be pushed back into nuclear negotiations with the US that will be “pretty brutal.”
“I think the Iranians will understand that the [Israeli military] operation with US involvement could resume if they continue to play for time and pursue the nuclear weaponisation threshold. I think that ship has sailed.”
“The US will come [at Iran] with a series of demands. Israel has to sit tight and let that happen.”

Wang Yi Speaks With Turkish Counterpart

Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan held a phone call with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi to discuss bilateral relations and the Iran-Israel conflict, as both countries monitor the fragile ceasefire.
They discussed efforts to de-escalate the ongoing conflict and tensions between Israel and Iran.
Wang, in turn, told Fidan that the ceasefire “reached by the two sides offers some hope.”
Fidan and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi called for reducing tensions between Israel and Iran, while reaffirming support for a two-state solution to resolve the ongoing crisis in Palestine.
In the phone call, the two top diplomats exchanged views on regional developments, focusing on efforts to de-escalate the Israel-Iran conflict and address the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Fidan condemned Israel’s continued attacks in Gaza, describing them as acts of genocide, and voiced concern over deteriorating conditions for Palestinian civilians.
Both ministers emphasized the need to revive the two-state solution as the only viable path toward lasting peace in the region
The discussion also touched on strengthening bilateral ties. Fidan and Wang expressed a mutual commitment to expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment and political dialogue.
In a separate statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Wang criticized the Israeli and US strikes on Iran as violations of international law and sovereignty, warning they set a dangerous precedent that threatens the global nuclear non-proliferation system.
Wang reiterated that the Palestinian question remains central to Middle East peace and emphasized China’s support for dialogue, peace initiatives, and regional stability.
