Okatakyie Afrifa Urges Sammy Gyamfi To Withdraw Lawsuit

Afia Schwarzenegger, Okatakyie Afrifa, and Sammy Gyamfi

Popular Ghanaian broadcaster and political activist, Okatakyie Afrifa, has weighed in on the lawsuit filed by the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, against Afia Schwarzenegger.

During an episode on a show, Okatakyie reprimanded Sammy Gyamfi for dragging the Ghanaian socialite based abroad to court for defamation.

He contended that the politician has no moral turpitude to drag anyone to court given his past actions. “You peddled so many falsehoods against people when you were the NDC Communications Officer, yet no one took you to court,” Okatakyie said during his show.

Okatakyie Afrifa accused the prominent Ghanaian politician of peddling falsehoods against his political opponents while serving as the National Communications Director for the NDC, and lying his way to win power in the 2024 elections.

He recalled how Sammy Gyamfi told Ghanaians that Hubtel belonged to the former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, yet it later turned out that the claim was false.

He also referred the NDC politician to some remarks he made against the host of the Kokrokoo Morning Show, Chairman Kwame Sefa Kayi, in 2019 when his party was in opposition.

Okatakyie stated that despite all of Sammy Gyamfi’s numerous “sins,” no one has ever taken him to court for defamation.

He, therefore, found it absurd that the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board would sue someone over comments made about him.

Afia Schwarzenegger is not backing down. The outspoken Ghanaian media personality fired back at Sammy Gyamfi, boldly dismissing his GH¢10 million defamation lawsuit with scathing words and unwavering confidence.

In a video shared on social media, Afia dared the Ghana Gold Board CEO to “go to hell”, insisting the case will amount to nothing.

Her comments come after Gyamfi filed a suit accusing her of making damaging allegations, including claims of infidelity and misconduct.

Drawing parallels with a previous case involving outspoken Ghanaian commentator Kevin Taylor, she expressed confidence that the court would throw out the case.

“Have you seen how Kevin Taylor’s case went? That is the same way our case would go. Kevin Taylor has insulted Otumfour, Chief Imam, yet he walks free.”

Afia went on to mock the legal action, stating emphatically that she would not compensate Gyamfi under any circumstances.

“Sammy Gyamfi, go to hell. Go and receive a defunct judgment. You have won the case. Moreover, I don’t have a pesewa in Ghana for you to take if you win the case. I don’t have any property in Ghana.”

Her post quickly drew reactions from followers and fans. While some supported her defiant tone, others expressed concern over the seriousness of the suit.

The comment section became a mix of legal opinions and fan banter, as people weighed in on both the lawsuit and Afia’s bold response.

“Kelvin Taylor koraa has been pardoned. Nobody is suing anyone because of insults and defamation anymore.”

The defamation suit filed by Sammy Gyamfi stems from accusations made by Afia Schwarzenegger, alleging that he engaged in infidelity, had extramarital affairs, and gifted vehicles to female students at the University of Ghana.

According to the court documents, Gyamfi is seeking a restraining order to prevent Schwarzenegger from making further defamatory remarks.

He is also requesting a public apology to be published on her social media platforms and in a widely circulated national newspaper. In addition, Gyamfi is demanding GH¢10 million in damages.
