The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, has dragged controversial media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, before the High Court in Accra, seeking damages and injunctive relief for alleged defamatory publications that he says have gravely damaged his reputation.
Per a Writ of Summons issued on July 23, 2025, and sanctioned for service outside Ghana’s jurisdiction, Gyamfi is pursuing the case against Afia Schwarzenegger, who resides in the United States, at the Bronx in New York.
He accuses her of making and widely circulating false and malicious claims aimed at tarnishing his image and causing public ridicule.
The plaintiff asserts in his Statement of Claim that Afia Schwarzenegger falsely alleged in a video widely shared on social media that he had extramarital relationships with female students of the University of Ghana, that he bought vehicles for these alleged girlfriends, and that he purchased properties in the United States for his wife and her younger sister.
The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, categorically denies all these claims. According to him, “I have no girlfriend(s) at the University of Ghana and have not at any time purchased vehicles for any so-called girlfriends as claimed by Defendant.”
He further debunked the claims relating to property acquisition, stating that he has not purchased any property in the U.S. or elsewhere for his wife or her alleged sister, whom he insists does not exist.
“My wife does not even have any sister called ‘Vida’ as published by the Defendant,” Gyamfi noted, describing the publication as reckless and without any factual basis.

The writ quotes portions of the alleged defamatory statements made by Afia Schwarzenegger in Asante Twi.
“Tell Sammy Gyamfi’s wife that I am greeting her. Her husband is still buying cars for the girls in Legon. I am holding the list… That Sammy Gyamfi’s girl, I have forgotten her name. Send it to me again, yes, and add all the list… Tell Sammy Gyamfi’s wife that her husband is doing a lot of work at Legon… Just a few days ago, his wife’s sister Vida came to buy a house in the US…”

Sammy Gyamfi contends that these allegations were made not only falsely but also with malicious intent to subject him to “public ridicule, opprobrium, derision, and contempt.”
He avers that the publication triggered a deluge of inquiries and calls from prominent individuals, including high-ranking officials at the Presidency, influential members of the NDC, friends, and relatives, all demanding clarity on the sensational claims.
“The Defendant acted maliciously,” the suit reads, adding that she deliberately chose to publish the statements sensationally across platforms to stir public sentiment against him.
It further notes that she made the statements “with no honest belief in the truthfulness of the claims.”
Sammy Gyamfi maintains that his hard-earned reputation has been severely undermined and that the statements have caused him “profound distress, anxiety, embarrassment, hatred, ridicule, derision, and public odium.”
Sammy Gyamfi Demands Ten Million Cedis Damages

As a result, he is seeking a declaration from the court that the statements constitute defamation.
In addition, he is asking for general damages for the defamation of his character and exemplary damages to the tune of Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHS10,000,000.00).
He also wants a perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from making further defamatory publications about him.
Sammy Gyamfi is also requesting that the court compel Afia Schwarzenegger to issue an unqualified apology and a full retraction of the defamatory statements.
He wants these published prominently on the front and back pages of the state-owned Daily Graphic newspaper for three consecutive days and circulated on TikTok and all other platforms where the original statements were disseminated.
No response from Afia Schwarzenegger has yet been made public, but per the court order, she has eight days upon service of the writ to enter an appearance or risk default judgment.
