US President, Donald Trump.

US President, Donald Trump.

US President, Donald Trump has disclosed that he’d ordered a deadly strike on Islamic State terrorists in Nigeria, who he has accused of persecuting Christians in the country.

In a post on social media, Trump said that he’d directed a “powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria,” who he said had been killing innocent Christians.

He claimed that violence against Christians had reached levels “not seen for many years and even Centuries!”

Trump presented the operation as a fulfilment of earlier warnings he said he had issued to militant groups, adding that the strike was intended to halt further attacks.

“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.”

He said the strikes were carried out successfully by the Department of War and described them as “perfect,” asserting that the United States has unique military capabilities that allow it to conduct such operations effectively.

“Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”

Nigeria Confirms US Security Cooperation on Terror Strikes

The Nigerian Foreign Ministry confirmed cooperation with the US on air strikes on “terrorist targets.”

In a statement signed by the ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the country is working closely with the United States and other international partners in structured security and intelligence cooperation aimed at countering terrorism and violent extremism.

The collaboration, according to the ministry, has resulted in precision air strikes on terrorist targets in Nigeria’s North West region.

The ministry emphasised that the cooperation is being conducted within recognised international frameworks and bilateral agreements. It explained that the partnership involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support that align with international law and respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

The government also sought to address concerns about the humanitarian implications of counter-terrorism operations. It reiterated that the protection of civilians remains central to Nigeria’s security strategy.

The statement stressed that all counter-terrorism actions are guided by the need to safeguard lives, preserve national unity, and uphold the rights and dignity of citizens across the country. “Terrorist violence in any form whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or other communities remains an affront to Nigeria’s values and to international peace and security,” the statement noted.

By explicitly referencing attacks on Christians, Muslims, and other communities, the ministry sought to frame terrorism as a national challenge rather than a sectarian issue.

“The Federal Government continues to work closely with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while strengthening Nigeria’s own security institutions and intelligence capabilities.”

Nigeria’s Ministry Of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it would continue to engage relevant partners as the situation evolves and pledged to keep the public informed through official channels.

Nigeria has for years faced complex security challenges, particularly from Islamist militant groups operating in different parts of the country.

Trump’s announcement comes amid continued global concern about the reach of extremist groups and the challenges facing governments in addressing insurgency and communal violence.

While his message sought to project strength and resolve, it also underscored the ongoing instability in parts of Africa and the complex dynamics surrounding international military interventions.
