The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC) has initiated steps to strengthen collaboration within Ghana’s LPG Sector by engaging the Ghana LPG Operators Association (GLiPGOA).
The engagement marks a significant move toward building stronger institutional partnerships to support the growth and sustainability of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) operations across the country.
“We were delighted to welcome representatives from the Ghana LPG Operators Association (GLiPGOA), the umbrella union representing LPG station operators and owners across Ghana, to explore opportunities for collaboration between our organizations.”

Representatives of GLiPGOA, the umbrella body for LPG station operators and owners nationwide, were recently hosted by COMAC to explore areas of mutual interest and cooperation.
The meeting focused on aligning industry efforts as Ghana accelerates its transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
Recognising LPG as a Critical Clean Energy Pathway

COMAC underscored the importance of LPG in Ghana’s evolving energy mix, particularly as the country seeks to reduce reliance on traditional biomass and promote cleaner cooking fuels.
“The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies recognizes GLiPGOA as a critical stakeholder in the downstream petroleum sector, particularly in the context of the national shift towards cleaner fuels.”

Industry observers say the recognition of LPG operators as strategic partners reflects growing awareness that achieving energy transition goals requires strong coordination between marketers, regulators, and retail operators.
During the engagement, discussions centered on how COMAC could provide strategic assistance to strengthen GLiPGOA’s operational effectiveness and institutional capacity.
Areas explored included governance support, operational efficiency, and access to expertise within the broader oil marketing ecosystem.
These discussions, according to participants, were aimed at ensuring that LPG operators are better positioned to meet safety, compliance, and service delivery expectations in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
Following what both sides described as productive deliberations, the COMAC Board of Governors pledged its support for the Association, signaling a commitment to sustained collaboration rather than a one-off engagement.
Planned MoU to Formalise Cooperation

As a concrete outcome of the discussions, COMAC and GLiPGOA announced their intention to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding.
The proposed MoU is expected to clearly define areas of cooperation and outline COMAC’s role in supporting GLiPGOA, particularly in operational and financial matters.
“As a demonstration of our commitment to industry partnerships and supporting the growth of the LPG sector, both parties intend to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that formalizes COMAC’s role in assisting GLiPGOA with its operational and financial matters.”

The agreement is anticipated to provide a structured framework for collaboration, enabling both organisations to work more closely in addressing sector-wide challenges and advancing shared objectives.
Stakeholders say the COMAC GLiPGOA collaboration could have far-reaching implications for Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector.
By strengthening the capacity of LPG operators, the partnership is expected to improve service delivery, enhance safety standards, and support the expansion of LPG access, particularly in underserved communities.
Shared Vision for Sustainable Energy Development
Both COMAC and GLiPGOA expressed optimism about the future of the partnership and its potential contribution to Ghana’s energy sector.
“We look forward to a strong and fruitful partnership that advances the interests of LPG operators in Ghana and contributes to the sustainable development of Ghana’s energy sector.”

As Ghana continues to pursue cleaner energy solutions, partnerships such as this are increasingly seen as essential to translating policy ambitions into practical outcomes.
The planned MoU between COMAC and GLiPGOA is expected to mark a new chapter of cooperation aimed at strengthening the LPG sector and supporting the country’s broader energy transition goals.
