King Charles III has issued a formal statement following the arrest of his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, expressing deep concern and emphasizing that the legal process must proceed without interference.
The statement, released after news of the arrest emerged, outlined the King’s position on the unfolding matter and underscored his commitment to due process.
The King said at the outset of his statement, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.”
Thames Valley Police arrested Andrew, who turns 66 today, earlier today. The former Prince was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and he is in custody.
It follows a series of claims that he allegedly shared official documents, including to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Previously reported allegations included that he had shared reports from trade visits, forwarded a confidential briefing on investment in Afghanistan, and passed a Treasury briefing to a personal business contact.
However, the specifics of this investigation which has led to the arrest have not been made public yet. Andrew has previously denied any wrongdoing.
A statement from Thames Valley police, noted, “As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.”
“The man remains in police custody at this time. We will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court.”

Assistant Chief Constable, Oliver Wright said that following a thorough assessment, “we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.”
“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

Dal Babu, former Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent, told a news agency that pressure has been “growing and growing” over the last few weeks.
The ex-senior police officer said that by arresting Andrew, police will be able “to access computer equipment, files, photographs, any other evidence.”
He also stated that officers “can carry out searches of any premises he owns or occupies, or any other premises he controls, so there may well be searches in other areas as well.”
Searches were also being carried out at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park where Andrew lived until recently.
King Charles Stresses Next Steps Should Follow Established Legal Procedures
In the statement, King Charles III went on to stress that the next steps should follow established legal procedures.
“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”

He added, “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.” The unequivocal tone underscored that no individual, regardless of position or status, is above legal scrutiny.
At the same time, he set limits on his public engagement with the issue, saying, “As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter.”
The final lines of the King’s message shifted focus to his ongoing responsibilities. “Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all,” he noted.
The remark signaled that, despite the personal and institutional challenges posed by the arrest, the monarchy intends to carry on its public role without interruption.
