Ghanaian musician Camidoh has shared insights into his latest single Phony, his temporary absence from the spotlight, and his views on relationships within the music industry.
Released on April 3, 2026, Phony is a soulful Afro fusion track produced by Nawtyboi Tattoo and Tudor Monroe. The song explores themes of love, loyalty, and betrayal, drawing from the artist’s personal experiences.
Speaking in a media interview, Camidoh explained the inspiration behind the track. “I believe in true and genuine friendship, but there are lots of phony attitudes in the game,” he said, noting that the song reflects realities he has observed within the industry.
He added that he maintains a small circle and is selective about the people he trusts. According to him, he values guidance only from individuals who genuinely support his growth.
On friendship and industry relationships
Camidoh highlighted the challenges of forming authentic relationships in the music space, describing trust as a rare commodity. He singled out Stonebwoy as one of the few people he considers more than a friend.

“In my absence, Stonebwoy expressed love for me not just in words but through actions. I will call him a brother, not a friend,” he said. He recounted instances where Stonebwoy recommended him for performance opportunities, even when he could not attend.
“There were times he would ask his team to pass gigs to me. I did it expecting nothing in return,” he added. Despite these experiences, Camidoh maintained that genuine friendships in the industry remain difficult to build, reinforcing the message behind Phony.
The artist also addressed his limited appearances at shows in 2025, clarifying that his absence was a personal decision rather than a lack of opportunities. “It was not intentional. When I found myself in that space, it felt therapeutic,” he said, describing the period as one of reflection and personal reset.
He noted that while some opportunities existed, he was not actively engaged with all events and chose to step back when necessary. The break, he explained, allowed him to reconnect with his creativity and focus on his music.
Reaction to TGMA nomination omission
Camidoh also spoke about his reaction to the exclusion of his song Your Ghost from the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026 nominations. Released in July 2025 as part of his EP Trustn God, Your Ghost is a deeply reflective track that explores themes of love, loss, and memory.
The song has resonated with listeners, making its absence from the nominations notable. “At some point I asked myself why the song was not nominated. Maybe they did not listen to it,” he said, expressing surprise at the decision.

He confirmed that the track was duly submitted for consideration and continues to perform well with audiences despite the omission. Camidoh’s Trustn God EP marked a significant phase in his artistic evolution, blending elements of gospel with Afro fusion to convey themes of faith, resilience, and personal struggle.
“We all have our highs and lows. The lows gave me inspiration to put it into music,” he explained. He described the project as a reflection of his personal journey, noting that it captures both moments of vulnerability and strength.
According to him, the music serves as a form of storytelling, allowing listeners to trace his experiences over time. “It would be nice to put my life story out there. It’s like a painting left for whoever wants to follow my journey,” he said.
Advice on privacy and personal struggles
Reflecting on his experiences, Camidoh advised against sharing personal struggles too widely, particularly within circles where trust is uncertain. “Keep everything to yourself,” he cautioned, suggesting that openness with the wrong people can lead to unintended consequences.
Instead, he encouraged turning to spiritual reflection and prayer as a source of strength and clarity. His perspective aligns with the themes explored in his recent music, which often centres on introspection and faith.

As he continues to evolve as an artist, Camidoh hinted at new projects in development, including an upcoming album he believes will resonate on a global scale.
He expressed confidence in the direction of his music, describing the forthcoming work as both “beautiful” and internationally appealing. While details remain limited, the anticipation reflects his growing ambition to expand his reach beyond Ghana.
With Phony marking his return and a new body of work on the horizon, Camidoh appears focused on refining his craft while staying grounded in personal experience and authenticity.
