Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, has backed English international, Harry Kane, as a Premier League legend, insisting the striker’s greatness was already secured long before his high-profile move to Bayern Munich in Germany.
Fernandes believes Kane’s individual performances during his time at Tottenham Hotspur placed him among the elite, even without major trophies to show for it.

The Portuguese midfielder argued that had Kane remained in England slightly longer, he would have rewritten the league’s history books entirely.
“If he had stayed at Tottenham for another one or two seasons, he’d have been the best goalscorer ever in the Premier League.”
Bruno Fernandes
He also went on to add that being the greatest scorer comes with an “elevated status” and asked that “So, would he have been a legend or not? He would.”
Kane’s Premier League Legacy Already Secure

Kane left Spurs in 2023 after years of relentless consistency, having established himself as one of the most feared forwards in English football.
His departure marked the end of an era in North London, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer after scoring 280 goals in 435 matches across all competitions and carried their attacking burden for nearly a decade.
In the Premier League alone, Kane netted 213 goals, placing him second on the all-time scoring chart behind Alan Shearer, who leads with 260. That gap of 47 goals has fueled endless debate about what might have been had Kane stayed longer in England.
Despite failing to win any silverware during his spell with Spurs, the 32-year-old’s individual accolades and consistency never dipped. Multiple Golden Boots, countless near perfect performances, and his ability to deliver year after year in a highly competitive league strengthened his claim as one of the greatest strikers of his generation.

Yet critics often pointed to the absence of trophies as a stain on his legacy, especially when compared to other elite forwards who combined personal excellence with team success. Alan Shearer, for instance, won the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers while other top scoring strikers like Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney won multiple domestic titles with Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
It is this narrative that Fernandes appears to challenge directly, suggesting that Kane’s legendary status should not be contingent on “medals alone“.
Bayern Move Reshaping Global Perception

Harry Kane’s switch to Bayern Munich was widely interpreted as a calculated decision to address that very criticism. Joining a dominant force in German football, the England captain significantly increased his chances of securing major honours that eluded him in England.
So far, the move has delivered exactly that narrative shift. Kane has maintained his remarkable scoring levels in the Bundesliga, winning the league’s top scorer award every season since his arrival and now has two major trophies to show for. Bayern Munich are also on course to defending their Bundesliga title after opening a 12-point gap on second-placed Borussia Dortmund with only five matches left.
Also, with 31 goals already in this campaign, he is on course to claim the top scorer accolade for a third consecutive time since arriving in Germany.
Fernandes has strong conviction that this combination of goals and trophies could elevate Kane into a different conversation altogether, particularly when it comes to individual recognition at the highest level in football.
“He decided to go to Bayern and the decision is good because he knows he has a big chance of winning trophies. Now we’re talking about Harry Kane scoring the same amount of goals he was scoring at Tottenham, but he might win a Ballon d’Or now because he’s going to win trophies.”
Bruno Fernandes

The mention of the Ballon d’Or highlights how perception in modern football often shifts when individual brilliance aligns with collective success.
At the Bavarian club, Kane is no longer just a prolific striker but he is part of a system expected to dominate domestically and contend for the UEFA Champions League. This evolution in context could ultimately redefine how Kane’s career is judged.
While his Premier League exploits alone secured his place among the greats, adding major trophies could push him into an even higher tier of footballing history.
Fernandes’ comments reflect a broader truth in today’s game that greatness is rarely judged on talent alone. The pursuit of silverware in Germany may not just complement Harry Kane’s legacy, but it could transform it entirely.
