Hearts of Oak came from a goal down to beat Bibiani Gold Stars 2-1 at Dun’s Park on Sunday, maintaining their perfect start to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
The Phobians fell behind in the 10th minute when Kwame Opoku put the home side ahead, giving Gold Stars an early advantage in front of their supporters.
The home side held on to their lead through the remainder of the first half, with Hearts struggling to turn their possession into clear-cut opportunities as the hosts went into the break 1-0 ahead.
Hearts, however, produced a strong response after the restart and turned the game around within the opening 11 minutes of the second half.
Yaw Amankwah Baafi restored parity in the 51st minute before Henry Kwaku Boateng, who set up the equalizer, completed the turnaround five minutes later, putting the Phobians 2-1 ahead.
Gold Stars were handed a late opportunity to rescue a point when they were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute, but Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare produced a crucial save to deny Richard Kotey and preserve the Phobians’ lead.
The victory gives head coach Nebojsa Kapor’s side six points from their opening two matches, marking the first time Hearts of Oak have won their first two league games since the 2015/16 season, when they finished third, just three points behind champions Legon Cities (then Wa All Stars).
Hearts Maintain Strong Away Record Against Gold Stars
The result represents Hearts’ second-ever away victory against Gold Stars in the Premier League. The Phobians have lost just once in six league visits to Bibiani, with three of those encounters ending in draws.
Hearts will look to extend their winning start when they face Bechem United at the University of Ghana Stadium next weekend.
Gold Stars, meanwhile, will be left to reflect on another disappointing result after surrendering their advantage at home.
Kotoko Secure First Win of the Season
Elsewhere, Asante Kotoko secured their first victory of the campaign with a 2-1 win over Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Emmanuel Mamah opened the scoring for the Porcupine Warriors in the first half before Isaac Opoku Agyemang doubled their advantage midway through the second half.
Heart of Lions pulled a goal back late in the game, but Kotoko held firm to secure three points and hand head coach Eric Tinkler his first league victory since taking charge.

“It’s still a work in progress because sometimes you’re going to win ugly. I feel today we won ugly, but it’s okay. We take the three points and move on.”

The Porcupine Warriors opened their campaign with a draw against newly promoted Debibi United and this results against Lions gives the Kumasi giants their first win of the season.
Samartex Maintain Perfect Start
Samartex continued their impressive beginning to the campaign with a 1-0 victory away to Aduana FC.
The result gives Samartex six points from their opening two matches, while Aduana remain without a win after two games.
Berekum Chelsea also claimed their first victory of the season after defeating Dreams FC 3-1, while Karela United recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Bechem United.
Swedru All Blacks secured a narrow 1-0 victory against newly promoted Debibi United, while Young Apostles edged Holy Stars 1-0 to collect their first three points.
The remaining fixture between Medeama and Port City FC was postponed due to the Yellow and Mauves involvement in the CAF Champions League preliminary qualifying round.
With two rounds of the new season completed, Hearts of Oak and Samartex have emerged among the early pace-setters, while several clubs are still searching for their first victories.
