Trade Ministry and Civil Service Council Advance Service Delivery Collaboration

The Trade Ministry and Civil Service Council Engages on Strategic Role, Service Delivery for National Development agenda was brought to the forefront on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, when the Civil Service Council paid a familiarisation visit to the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in Accra. The meeting focused on strengthening institutional cooperation and improving public service efficiency to support Ghana’s national development objectives.

The engagement brought together senior officials from both institutions to discuss reforms, coordination, and improved delivery of government services. It formed part of ongoing efforts to reset the public sector and align it with national economic transformation goals.

The visit, led by Civil Service Council Chairman Dr Lawrence Kannea, reinforced the importance of collaboration between political leadership and the administrative machinery of government. The Trade Ministry and Civil Service Council Engages on Strategic Role, Service Delivery for National Development initiative was repeatedly highlighted as a critical step toward improving governance outcomes.

Council Promotes Public Service Efficiency

The Civil Service Council emphasised the need for improved professionalism and stronger coordination across government institutions. Dr Lawrence Kannea noted that the Trade Ministry and Civil Service Council Engages on Strategic Role, Service Delivery for National Development initiative reflects a shared responsibility to improve governance outcomes.

Dr Kannea further explained that effective collaboration between ministries and the Civil Service remains key to ensuring that government policies are successfully implemented.

Ministry Highlights Industrial Transformation Goals

Hon. Sampson Ahi underscored the strategic importance of the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in driving investment and industrial growth. He noted that the Trade Ministry and Civil Service Council Engages on Strategic Role, Service Delivery for National Development engagement reinforces the need for synergy between policy direction and administrative execution.

“The Trade Ministry plays a critical role in attracting investment and supporting Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda,” he said.

He added that boosting exports, strengthening agribusiness, and creating sustainable employment opportunities remain top priorities of government. He also called for fairness, discipline, and professionalism within the Civil Service to enhance service delivery. Hon. Ahi further commended staff of the Ministry for their continued commitment to supporting government programmes and reforms.

Ministry Presents Reform Progress Update

Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Noah Tumfo, described the visit as a progressive step toward strengthening institutional accountability. He briefed the delegation on the Ministry’s operations, noting that it has over 350 staff and maintains representation in nine international missions. He highlighted ongoing policy reforms, particularly the Agribusiness Policy, which is in its final stages of development.

According to him, the policy is designed to strengthen value chains and improve productivity in the agricultural sector. Mr. Tumfo noted that the Trade Ministry and Civil Service Council Engages on Strategic Role, Service Delivery for National Development engagement supports efforts to improve coordination and policy implementation across government institutions.

Civil Service Reaffirms Reform Commitment

Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Dr Lawrence Kannea, expressed appreciation for the leadership and efforts of the Ministry’s management team. He reiterated the Council’s commitment to supporting reforms that enhance efficiency and service delivery.

“We want to move away from outdated systems and build an industrialised economy that creates wealth and employment opportunities.”

The engagement highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between political leadership and the Civil Service in driving national development. Both institutions agreed that effective service delivery remains critical to achieving Ghana’s economic transformation agenda.

The discussions reaffirmed that the Trade Ministry and Civil Service Council Engages on Strategic Role, Service Delivery for National Development process will continue to support reforms aimed at improving governance, boosting industrial growth, and enhancing public sector performance.
