President John Dramani Mahama is expected to visit the Eastern Region this weekend as part of the government’s ongoing “Resetting Ghana Tour,” with a series of official engagements, project inspections, sod-cutting ceremonies, and public interactions scheduled across the region.
The announcement was made by Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, who said she would have the honour of hosting the President during the two-day working visit beginning Friday, May 1, 2026.
According to the Regional Minister, the visit forms part of the government’s broader effort to engage citizens directly while monitoring ongoing development projects and launching new initiatives across the country.
May Day Celebration in Koforidua
One of the major highlights of the President’s visit will be the 2026 National May Day Celebration scheduled to take place at Jackson Park in Koforidua. The event is expected to attract workers, labour unions, government officials, and residents from across the region as Ghana marks International Workers’ Day.

Mrs Awatey described Koforidua’s hosting of the national celebration as a significant moment for the Eastern Region. “This visit is a significant milestone for us, especially as Koforidua plays host to the 2026 National May Day Celebration,” she said.
The celebration is expected to provide a platform for discussions on labour, productivity, economic development, and the welfare of workers.
President to Cut Sod for Key Projects
As part of the tour, President Mahama is scheduled to perform sod cutting ceremonies for several infrastructure projects within the region. On the first day of the visit, the President will cut sod for the construction of a multipurpose hall and hostel facility at the SDA College of Education.
The Minister said the project is intended to improve infrastructure at the institution and support academic and student life. The President will also perform another sod-cutting ceremony for a proposed 24-hour market project at Asesewa.
The market project forms part of the administration’s wider economic strategy aimed at promoting commerce, improving trading infrastructure, and supporting round the clock economic activity.
According to the Regional Minister, the planned projects demonstrate government’s commitment to improving living standards and expanding infrastructure development in the Eastern Region.

“Beyond the festivities, we will be busy on the ground with sod cutting ceremonies and project inspections that highlight our government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure and the well-being of our people”.

New Police Headquarters to Be Opened
President Mahama is also expected to officially open the Krobo Divisional Police Headquarters located at Lasi during the first day of the tour. The facility is expected to strengthen security operations within the area and improve law enforcement capacity in the Krobo enclave and surrounding communities.
Government officials believe the new police headquarters will support efforts to maintain peace and public safety while improving working conditions for security personnel.
The opening forms part of broader efforts by the administration to improve public infrastructure and strengthen state institutions across the country.
Citizen Engagement Scheduled for Saturday
A major component of the President’s visit will be a citizen engagement forum, described as a town hall meeting, scheduled for Saturday at the ICGC Jesus Temple at Adweso near Jubilee Park.

The event is expected to provide residents with an opportunity to interact directly with the President and discuss issues affecting the region and the country. Mrs Awatey encouraged residents to participate in the engagement actively.
“I am particularly looking forward to our Citizen Engagement Townhall on Saturday at the ICGC Jesus Temple, Adweso. This is a vital opportunity for the President to hear directly from you.”

The town hall meeting forms part of the administration’s strategy of promoting direct engagement between government and citizens as part of its “Resetting Ghana” agenda.
Project Inspections Also Planned
The President is also expected to inspect several ongoing development projects during the visit. Among the projects listed for inspection are developments at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development at Somanya and the Akosombo to Gyakiti road project.
The inspections are expected to allow the President and government officials to assess progress on major infrastructure initiatives within the region.
Road and educational infrastructure remain key components of the government’s development agenda under the broader Resetting Ghana programme. Officials say the projects are intended to improve connectivity, support education, and promote regional economic growth.
Regional Minister Calls for Public Participation
Mrs Awatey appealed to residents across the Eastern Region to participate fully in the activities planned during the President’s visit. “I encourage all residents to join us in these activities as we continue to drive the development priorities of the Eastern Region forward,” she urged.

She stressed that the visit presents an important opportunity for the region to showcase its development priorities and engage directly with the national leadership.
The “Resetting Ghana Tour” has become a key feature of President Mahama’s administration as government seeks to strengthen public engagement while monitoring implementation of projects and policy initiatives across the country.
The Eastern Regional visit is expected to focus heavily on infrastructure, citizen participation, security, education, and economic development as government continues to roll out its broader national transformation agenda.
