Kamal-Deen Abdulai has criticised the current administration over its management of the energy sector and persistent power outages.
The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party Deputy argued that the public deserves transparency regarding the use of various energy levies and taxes.
He noted that citizens remain frustrated by the recurring electricity instability across the country.
Mr Abdulai insisted that the government must focus on practical solutions to restore a consistent power supply to homes and businesses.
The Deputy Communications Director highlighted the legal basis used by the Minority in Parliament to seek accountability.
He confirmed that the Right to Information Act empowers every citizen to demand details on public performance and financial management.
Kamal-Deen Abdulai emphasised that the application filed by the Deputy Minority Whip followed due process and the rule of law.
He maintained that the action aimed to protect the interests of taxpayers contributing to energy debt recovery efforts.
He referenced Section 18 of Act 989 as the primary justification for the formal request for information.
“Section 18 of Act 989 is clear that every citizen who demands information on public performance can rely on the law to do so, and that is exactly what Hon. Habib has done.”

He stated that the law exists specifically to allow scrutiny of state institutions and their operational efficiency.
Abdulai rejected claims that the Minority lacked the moral authority to trigger the Right to Information process.
He argued that those who remain idle while others pursue accountability have no basis to oppose the initiative.
The Deputy Communications Director expressed support for efforts to obtain clarity on the specific accounts holding the Dumsor levy.

He argued that the Energy Minister has a legal obligation to ensure these funds are used strictly for their intended purpose.
He pointed out that the Energy Sector Act requires the creation of specialised accounts for debt management and sector stabilisation.
Abdulai insisted that the public deserves to know whether these funds are being used effectively to address the ongoing power crisis.
The NPP official observed that previous administrations left behind a legacy of inefficiency that still affects the energy sector. He stated that the current situation reminds many Ghanaians of the prolonged power challenges experienced between 2014 and 2015.
Abdulai noted that the explanations offered by officials today mirror narratives used during earlier energy crises.
He cautioned that the public remains wary of technical explanations that do not translate into a stable national power supply.
Deputy Communications Director Exposes Infrastructure Neglect And Maintenance Failures
Kamal-Deen Abdulai further addressed technical challenges within the Electricity Company of Ghana during a recent media appearance.
He claimed that the current leadership has failed to procure essential equipment needed to maintain the ageing power distribution infrastructure.
He stated that his personal investigations revealed a significant lack of investment in new transformers since the current government took office.
He argued that many transformers currently being used for replacements were procured during the previous NPP administration.
He accused the Minority of attempting to obscure their past failures while criticising the current state of the energy sector.
Abdulai challenged claims that the ongoing outages are purely due to accidents or force majeure events at the Akosombo Dam.
The politician also referenced claims about missing containers of electrical equipment, which he said were later withdrawn by opposition members.
He asserted that those containers in fact contained transformers now being used for emergency repairs.
Abdulai stated that the lack of forward planning by current ministry officials has worsened long-standing challenges in the national grid.
He highlighted that peak electricity demand now exceeds available generation capacity.
He praised investigative journalists who exposed discrepancies between official statements and conditions on the ground.
The Deputy Communications Director said accurate energy data is essential for meaningful national discourse.
He condemned personal attacks against critics raising concerns about persistent power cuts. Abdulai noted that citizens continue to suffer losses, including spoiled food and damaged appliances, due to unreliable electricity supply.

He urged the government to confront the energy crisis directly without resorting to excuses or public relations spin.
He maintained that the NPP would continue to demand accountability and performance from those managing the power sector.
“Until you fix this Dumsor, until you do what is right and stop the needless excuses, we will meet you boot for boot and ensure you do what is right.”
