Real Madrid have confirmed that midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni have each been fined €500,000 following a training ground altercation that led to disciplinary proceedings instituted against the players.

The incident, which reportedly occurred during a heated training session at Valdebebas, left Valverde with a severe cut to the head.

While the exact details surrounding the confrontation remain unclear, the club moved swiftly to investigate the matter internally.

In an official statement released on Friday, Real Madrid confirmed that both players had appeared before the investigator assigned to the case and had fully cooperated throughout the process. “Real Madrid C. F. announces that, following the events that led to the disciplinary proceedings initiated yesterday against our players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, both appeared today before the investigator assigned to the case,” the statement read.

The club also revealed that the players expressed remorse over the incident and apologised to one another, as well as to the wider Real Madrid community.

“During their appearance, the players expressed their complete remorse for what happened and apologized to each other. Furthermore, they extended their apologies to the club, their teammates, the coaching staff, and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate.”

Real Madrid Statement

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Real Madrid acknowledged the cooperation and attitude shown by both players during the investigation, which influenced the sanctions imposed. “Under these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial penalty of five hundred thousand euros on each player, thereby concluding the corresponding internal procedures.”

The development has generated widespread discussion across the football world, particularly given the high-profile nature of both players and the intense scrutiny that surrounds the Spanish giants.

Aurelien Tchouaméni Issues an Apology

Both players have since issued official apologies to the club and its supporters, especially to young fans who look up to them as role models.

For Tchouaméni, a lengthy public apology in which he described the incident as “unacceptable” and admitted that the players had failed to live up to the standards expected at the club was released.

“What happened this week in training is unacceptable and I say this while thinking about the example we are expected to set for young people, whether in football or at school. No matter who is right or wrong, we should always look for the calmest solution to resolve a conflict.”

The former AS Monaco midfielder also apologised for damaging the image of the 15-time European champions, especially during a season that has already attracted heavy criticism and frustration among supporters.

“Above all, I am sorry for the image we projected of the club. I know the fans, the staff, my teammates, the management, everyone is deeply disappointed by the way this season has unfolded. But frustration cannot excuse everything. These incidents, even if they can happen in any dressing room, are not worthy of Real Madrid. Especially since Real Madrid is the most talked-about club in the world.”

Tchouaméni stressed that disagreements are inevitable in competitive environments but insisted that unity within the squad must remain the priority moving forward. “We remain family, with disagreements at times but we must always put our objectives above everything else and I apologized to the group, and I also want to extend my apologies to all Madridistas.”

Valverde has also issued a detailed public statement of his own, and the club confirmed that both players had reconciled during the disciplinary process.

The incident comes at a sensitive moment for Real Madrid as the club seeks stability both on and off the pitch ahead of the closing stages of the season.

Internal tensions have reportedly increased amid inconsistent performances and growing pressure surrounding the team’s campaign.

While dressing-room disagreements are not uncommon in elite football, Real Madrid’s decision to publicly address the issue and impose significant financial penalties underlines the seriousness with which the club viewed the matter.
