Madonna, Shakira and BTS will headline the half-time show at the final in New Jersey

In a groundbreaking announcement that has sent shockwaves through the worlds of music and sports, FIFA has revealed the headliners for the first-ever halftime show at the FIFA World Cup Final.

On July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey, global superstars Madonna, Shakira, and BTS will co-headline a spectacular performance during the championship match of the 2026 tournament.

This marks a historic first for the World Cup. Unlike the Super Bowl, which has featured elaborate halftime shows for decades, the FIFA World Cup Final has never included a major musical performance until now.

The 2026 edition, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is already the largest in history with 48 teams, and this addition elevates the spectacle even further. Organizers expect the final to draw over a billion viewers worldwide, making this stage one of the most watched in entertainment history.

The show will be curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and produced in partnership with Global Citizen. A star-studded teaser video featuring Chris Martin alongside Sesame Street’s Elmo and Muppets characters like Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog helped break the news, adding a playful, family-friendly touch to the announcement.

Beyond the entertainment, the halftime show carries a significant social impact. It supports the new FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a landmark initiative aiming to raise $100 million to expand access to quality education and football (soccer) for children around the world.

Additionally, $1 from every ticket sold for the entire 2026 World Cup will contribute to this fund. Proceeds from the halftime show itself will directly benefit the cause, blending pop culture power with meaningful global development goals.

The Power Trio

The combination of Madonna, Shakira, and BTS represents a perfect fusion of eras, cultures, and fanbases.

Madonna, the undisputed Queen of Pop, brings decades of boundary-pushing hits like “Vogue,” “Like a Prayer,” and “Hung Up.” At 67, she continues to influence fashion, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and music innovation. Her presence guarantees iconic moments and high-energy choreography.

Shakira, the Colombian superstar, returns to the World Cup stage after delivering unforgettable performances, including the 2010 South Africa anthem “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).” Known for her infectious Latin rhythms, dance moves, and global hits like “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever,” she bridges cultures effortlessly.

BTS, the K-pop phenomenon, adds explosive energy, dedicated fandom (ARMY), and a message of self-love and unity. With members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, they have broken countless records and previously contributed to World Cup campaigns (Jungkook performed at the 2022 Qatar opening). Their global appeal, especially among younger audiences, ensures massive social media buzz.

This diverse lineup symbolizes unity,Western pop, Latin flair, and Asian wave mirroring the international spirit of the World Cup itself.

Fan Reactions

Social media exploded within minutes of the announcement. Hashtags like #WorldCupHalftime, #MadonnaBTSShakira, and #FIFA2026 trended globally.

Fans are already speculating about possible collaborations, setlist surprises, and whether members of BTS will perform solo or as a group. Industry experts note that the show, reportedly around 11-12 minutes long, will be a tightly choreographed masterpiece.

For the artists, this is more than a performance,it is a platform to reach new audiences and amplify causes they care about. Shakira’s history with FIFA, BTS’s philanthropy, and Madonna’s activism align perfectly with the Education Fund’s mission.

What to Expect

While full details remain under wraps, expect high-production value with state-of-the-art visuals, pyrotechnics, and seamless transitions between the three acts.

The performance will blend signature hits with potential mash-ups, creating unforgettable television. It builds on successful experiments like the 2025 Club World Cup halftime show and brings Super Bowl-level glamour to football’s pinnacle event.

As the countdown to July 19 begins, this announcement has already heightened anticipation for the entire tournament. The 2026 World Cup promises to be more than just a sporting event, it will be a global cultural celebration.

This halftime show is poised to be one of the most talked-about moments in 2026.
