Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the club’s Players’ Player of the Year for the second consecutive season following another exceptional campaign at Old Trafford.
The award, voted for by members of the first-team squad, recognises the player considered most influential and consistent throughout the season.
Fernandes emerged as the clear winner after delivering another impressive year in a Manchester United shirt.
Confirming the announcement in an official statement released on Thursday, the club said, “Bruno Fernandes has won the Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year award, for the second straight season.”
United also revealed that the Portuguese midfielder “topped a confidential ballot” conducted among the first-team squad at Carrington, underlining the admiration he continues to receive from teammates for his leadership and performances.
Fernandes Closing In On Historic Premier League Record
Fernandes has enjoyed one of the finest individual campaigns of his Manchester United career, contributing 29 goal involvements in 35 appearances across all competitions this season.
Much of that impact has come in the Premier League, where the midfielder has scored 8 goals while providing 19 assists. His creativity has been crucial to United’s attack, especially during difficult stretches of the campaign where the team struggled for consistency.
The Portuguese playmaker now sits just one assist away from equalling the Premier League record for most assists in a single season. The current record of 20 is jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Fernandes is also expected to claim the Premier League Playmaker Award if he finishes the season with the division’s highest assist tally.
Last week, he added another major honour to his growing collection after being named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year.
The latest award places Fernandes among an elite group of Manchester United players who have won the Players’ Player of the Year accolade on multiple occasions since it was introduced in 2005/06.
Club icon Cristiano Ronaldo secured back-to-back wins in 2007 and 2008, while former winger Antonio Valencia also won the award twice during his time at the club.
Former goalkeeper David de Gea remains the most successful recipient with four wins, while defender Luke Shaw also claimed the honour on two occasions.
Fernandes’ continued dominance highlights the influence he has had since arriving from Sporting CP in 2020. Beyond his goals and assists, the midfielder has become the emotional leader of the squad and one of the club’s most dependable performers.
Current teammate Diogo Dalot is the only other active Manchester United player to have won the award, having picked up the honour in 2024.
With the campaign nearing its conclusion, Fernandes remains in contention for more individual recognition and could yet finish the season by rewriting Premier League history.
