Florentino Pérez has secured another term as president of Real Madrid, extending his reign at the helm of the Spanish giants until 2030 following his re-election after beating Enrique Riquelme in the polls.

The veteran administrator, who returned to the presidency in 2009, will now continue leading the club for another four years after comfortably retaining his seat in the latest election process. His victory further cements one of the most successful presidential tenures in football history.

Addressing supporters after the confirmation of the result, Pérez expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to the club’s future ambitions. “It’s a beautiful day for me and for all Madridistas,” Pérez said. “We won. I’m here to defend Real Madrid. We are a family. We will keep winning titles together.”

The 79-year-old has overseen a remarkable era of success at the Santiago Bernabéu, transforming Madrid into one of the dominant forces in world football both on and off the pitch.

A Legacy Built on European Success

Pérez’s second spell as president has been defined largely by unprecedented success in European competition. Since returning to office in 2009, Real Madrid have lifted six UEFA Champions League trophies, including the historic “La Décima” in 2014, which ended the club’s 12-year wait for a tenth European crown.

That triumph against city rivals Atlético Madrid in Lisbon opened the floodgates for an era of continental dominance that saw Los Blancos regularly conquer Europe, becoming the first team to defend the Uefa Champions League title since the competition’s rebranding in 1992.

Alongside those Champions League successes, Pérez has presided over multiple domestic league titles, Copa del Rey triumphs and FIFA Club World Cup victories, while also overseeing major infrastructure projects, including the extensive redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

With his latest mandate secured, Pérez immediately turned attention toward future objectives rather than celebrating past achievements. “The fight for the 16th Champions League starts today,” he declared, sending a clear message that the club’s hunger for European success remains unfinished.

His statement reflects the mentality that has defined Real Madrid throughout his presidency, where every trophy is viewed as the foundation for the next challenge rather than a final destination.

Mourinho Confirmed for Sensational Return After 13 Years

One of the biggest announcements made following Pérez’s re-election was the confirmation that former manager José Mourinho will return to the club for a second spell in charge after thirteen years since he left the club.

The Portuguese coach recently departed Benfica after guiding the Lisbon side through an unbeaten domestic campaign. Despite that achievement, Benfica narrowly missed out on the league title to FC Porto.

Pérez hailed Mourinho’s return as a major step toward maintaining the club’s competitive edge. “We are proud to welcome back one of the best coaches in the world, a proper Madridista, José Mourinho,” the president announced.

Mourinho first arrived at Los Blancos in 2010 following his Champions League-winning success with Inter Milan. During his three-year spell in Spain, he helped break the dominance of Barcelona, delivered a La Liga title with a record points tally and restored a fierce competitive mentality within the squad.

He left in 2013 before beginning a second stint at Chelsea, but his relationship with Madrid supporters has remained strong over the years.

Election Rival Congratulate Perez.

Despite Pérez’s victory, election challenger Enrique Riquelme made it clear that opposition voices within the club are not disappearing.

Riquelme, who campaigned on promises of increased transparency and a fresh vision for the future of the institution, congratulated Pérez on retaining the presidency while signalling that scrutiny of the club’s leadership would continue.
“Congrats to Florentino Pérez. However, this is not the end,” Riquelme stated.

His comments suggest that debates surrounding the club’s direction and governance are likely to remain active despite Pérez’s renewed mandate.

For now, however, the spotlight belongs to the long-serving president. With another term secured, a legendary coach returning to the dugout and ambitions firmly fixed on capturing a 16th European crown, Florentino Pérez begins the next chapter of his Real Madrid presidency determined to add even more silverware to an already glittering legacy.
