Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is in a stable condition after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, according to team doctor Morten Boesen.
The alarming incident occurred in the 64th minute of the friendly encounter with the match eventually abandoned following Eriksen’s collapse. The experienced midfielder had been pressing Ukraine’s defenders when he appeared to clutch his chest before suddenly falling unconscious on the pitch.
Players and officials immediately signaled for medical assistance as medics from both teams rushed onto the field to attend to the former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur star.
The swift response helped stabilize Eriksen, who later regained consciousness and was able to leave the pitch under his own power.

Before the incident, Denmark were leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Patrick Dorgu and Joakim Mæhle, while Viktor Tsygankov had scored for Ukraine.
However, the result quickly became secondary as concern spread throughout the stadium over Eriksen’s condition.
Doctor Confirms Positive Initial Signs
Speaking after the incident, Boesen provided an encouraging update on the 34-year-old midfielder’s health, revealing that Eriksen had recovered consciousness quickly and was communicating normally following the scare. “Christian Eriksen is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him,” Boesen said.
The doctor’s remarks offered reassurance to fans across the football world, many of whom feared the worst after witnessing the distressing scenes unfold live.

Boesen added that Eriksen was in good spirits after the incident and had even asked for a message to be passed on to his teammates.
“He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital. But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay.”

Medical evaluations are expected to continue over the coming days as specialists seek to identify the exact cause of the collapse despite the apparent successful response of his implanted cardiac device.
Another Scare for the Denmark Star
Sunday’s incident inevitably brought back memories of Eriksen’s dramatic collapse during Denmark’s opening match at the UEFA European Championship in 2021. On that occasion, he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and required emergency medical treatment before being taken to hospital.

The incident shocked the sporting world and led to significant changes in Eriksen’s career. Because Italian regulations prevented him from continuing to play in Serie A with an implanted defibrillator, his contract with Inter Milan was terminated by mutual agreement.
Despite facing one of the most challenging moments imaginable for a professional athlete, Eriksen made a remarkable return to football less than a year later. He resumed his career with English Premier League side, Brentford before earning a move to Manchester United, where he re-established himself as one of the Premier League’s most accomplished midfielders.
His resilience and determination have made him one of football’s most inspiring figures, and Sunday’s positive medical update will come as welcome news to supporters around the world.
While further tests are still required to determine what triggered the latest collapse, Denmark’s immediate concern has eased significantly following confirmation from team doctors that Eriksen is stable, conscious and recovering after another frightening chapter in his extraordinary career.
