The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) delivered another impressive performance at the start of the trading week, with the benchmark GSE Composite Index soaring past the 14,600-point mark and reinforcing investor confidence in the country’s capital market.
Despite a significant decline in trading activity compared to the previous session, the market demonstrated remarkable resilience as strong gains in key equities pushed both major indices higher and added more than GHS1 billion to the market’s overall value.
The latest performance underscores the bullish momentum that has characterized the Ghanaian stock market in recent months, with investors continuing to reap substantial returns amid improving market sentiment and growing confidence in listed companies.
Ecobank Leads Market Charge
Leading the day’s gainers was Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), which recorded a remarkable 7.66 percent increase in its share price to close trading at GHS2.25 per share.
The banking giant’s strong performance helped set the tone for the market and contributed significantly to the upward movement of the benchmark index.
Following closely behind was SIC Insurance Company, which gained 5.07 percent, while Clydestone Ghana advanced by 2.04 percent. Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana also joined the list of gainers, recording a 0.47 percent appreciation in its share price.
The widespread gains among major stocks reflected renewed investor appetite and reinforced the positive sentiment that has fueled the market’s exceptional performance throughout the year.
Only one listed equity ended the day in negative territory. Benso Oil Palm Plantation recorded a marginal decline of 0.01 percent, making it the sole loser among the stocks that participated in trading.
MTN Ghana Dominates Trading Activity
Although overall market activity declined sharply, MTN Ghana remained the most actively traded stock on the exchange.
The telecommunications leader recorded an impressive trading volume of approximately 2.3 million shares, highlighting its continued attractiveness among investors.
GCB Bank followed with 793,567 traded shares, while Ecobank Transnational recorded 387,529 shares. CalBank also featured prominently with 362,501 traded shares changing hands during the session.
At the close of trading, a total of 4.27 million shares were exchanged on the market, representing a value of GHS46.38 million.
Compared to the previous trading day, volume declined by 51 percent while turnover dropped by 53 percent. However, market participants appeared largely unfazed by the reduction in activity as the broader market continued its upward trajectory.
Composite Index Breaks New Ground
The benchmark GSE Composite Index climbed by 159.58 points, representing a gain of 1.1 percent, to close at an impressive 14,601.60 points.
The latest increase further strengthens the market’s extraordinary performance in 2026 and highlights the growing confidence among both institutional and retail investors.
The index has now recorded a one-week gain of 2.59 percent and a four-week gain of 1.96 percent.
Even more striking is its year-to-date performance. The Composite Index has surged by an astonishing 66.49 percent since the beginning of the year, making it one of the most impressive investment stories in Ghana’s financial sector.
Market analysts believe the sustained rally reflects improving corporate earnings, stronger investor participation and increasing optimism about Ghana’s economic prospects.
Financial Stocks Continue Their Dominance
The financial sector remained one of the strongest drivers of market growth.
The GSE Financial Stocks Index rose by 1.56 percent to close at 8,356.18 points, extending its impressive winning streak.
Over the past week, the index has gained 6.14 percent, while its four-week performance stands at 3.56 percent.
Perhaps most remarkable is its year-to-date gain of 79.81 percent, highlighting the exceptional performance of financial institutions listed on the exchange.
The strong showing by banking and financial stocks continues to attract investor attention and reinforces the sector’s critical role in driving overall market expansion.
Market Capitalization Surpasses GHS285 Billion
One of the most significant outcomes of the trading session was the substantial increase in market capitalization.
The total value of companies listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange jumped by more than GHS1 billion to reach GHS285.5 billion, equivalent to approximately USD25.7 billion.
This milestone reflects the growing wealth being created within Ghana’s capital market and demonstrates the increasing value investors are assigning to listed firms.
As the market continues to post record gains and key indices reach new highs, investors will be closely monitoring whether the current momentum can be sustained in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Stock Exchange appears firmly on an upward path, with the Composite Index’s breakthrough above 14,600 points serving as yet another signal of the market’s remarkable strength and resilience in 2026.
