The Four

Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele has officially announced her next major cinematic project, the emotionally charged drama The Four: No One Fights Alone. The film is scheduled for a nationwide and global cinema release on December 11, 2026, and is already generating significant buzz across entertainment circles in Nigeria and beyond.

Produced under the Funke Akindele Network (FAAN) banner and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, The Four continues Akindele’s remarkable run of commercial and critical successes. As writer, director, and producer, she once again takes the helm of a project designed to entertain while reflecting the lived experiences of Nigerian audiences. In her announcement, Akindele emphasized that viewers have come to expect stories that both entertain and mirror their realities.

The film centers on four women whose intertwined journeys form the heart of the narrative. It follows Esosa and three fiercely loyal companions as they fight for the future of a young man they love. Their path tests courage, faith, and loyalty in profound ways.

Set between the picturesque Odu Community and the vibrant energy of city life, the story explores themes of friendship, motherhood, resilience, hope, sacrifice, and the enduring power of unity. Akindele has described it as a celebration of the extraordinary strength found in ordinary women.

Beyond its emotional core, The Four aims to showcase Nigeria’s rich cultural identity. The production incorporates music, fashion, language, tradition, and striking cinematography to create an authentic and visually compelling experience.

Promotional materials released alongside the announcement feature vibrant imagery of the cast in bold, colorful attire that blends traditional African aesthetics with contemporary style, reinforcing the film’s cultural emphasis.

The central quartet includes Funke Akindele herself alongside singer Waje, Bisola Aiyeola, and Chioma Chukwuka (also referred to in some reports as Chioma Akpotha). These four women stand at the forefront of the story, representing distinct journeys that converge into one powerful narrative. Akindele highlighted this focus in her posts, stating that the cast reveal marks the real beginning of the project and teasing that audiences are “not ready” for what is coming.

Supporting the leads is a formidable ensemble that spans established Nollywood veterans, rising stars, and figures from the music and entertainment industries. The full cast list includes Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu, Uzor Arukwe, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Antar Laniyan, Wunmi Toriola, John Ekanem, Ireoluwa Olaniyan, Omotunde Adebowale David (Lolo1), Mide Iwasokun, Kolapo Omotosho, Shoday, Ogbolor, Samuel Banks, and Ayomide Iwasokun, among others. The inclusion of award-winning singer Waje and Afrobeats artist Shoday underscores the film’s cross-genre appeal, blending acting talent with musical personalities to broaden its reach.

The announcement arrived through a coordinated rollout of striking posters and group photographs shared across social media platforms. One set of images presents the full ensemble in elaborate, patterned traditional and modern outfits arranged on white steps against a clean backdrop. Another series shows groups of women and men in coordinated purple-and-orange sports-style jerseys bearing the film’s title, posed dynamically on a green surface that evokes a sports field.

A focused poster highlights the four central women-Waje, Funke Akindele, Bisola Aiyeola, and Chioma Chukwuka each styled in distinctive, fashion-forward looks. Credits for the creative team behind the visuals include creative director and stylist, designers for male and female costumes, makeup artists, hairstylists, and photographers, reflecting the high production values associated with Akindele’s projects.

Public Reaction

Industry observers note that Akindele has consistently rewritten Nigerian box-office history. Her previous films have broken records and solidified her status as one of Africa’s most commercially successful filmmakers and influential creative voices. The Four arrives as the next installment in what her team has framed as a “blockbuster relay,” building anticipation months ahead of its December premiere. Cinemas including Silverbird have already begun promoting the December 11 date, urging audiences to mark their calendars.

The project’s emphasis on female solidarity and collective strength resonates with ongoing conversations about representation and storytelling in Nollywood. By centering four women with different paths who refuse to face challenges in isolation-the tagline “No One Fights Alone” captures this spirit-the film positions itself as both entertainment and a statement on community and resilience.

As production details continue to emerge and promotional efforts ramp up in the coming months, The Four is poised to become one of the most anticipated Nigerian cinema releases of 2026. With its star-studded cast, cultural richness, and Akindele’s proven track record for delivering crowd-pleasing yet meaningful dramas, the film promises to draw large audiences when it opens in theaters on December 11.

Fans and industry watchers alike are already expressing excitement, signaling that the next chapter in Funke Akindele’s cinematic journey is off to a strong start.
