The Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Honourable Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, has assured residents of Dzebetato of support to complete the community initiated CHPS compound. He explained that measures are being taken to secure the facility and enable residents to move into parts of the building while work continues.

The South Tongu MP noted that the project started in 2019 before his election to Parliament, although he supported the community whenever assistance was required. In January 2026, the community formally requested materials to advance construction and 100 bags of cement were approved for the project.

Honourable Lukutor further disclosed that he inspected the facility during the Easter period and identified security works as an immediate priority. He directed that an estimate be prepared for burglar proofing the windows and doors before attention shifts to completing selected rooms.

“We need to do burglar proofing on the windows and the doors, so that we can secure the whole project, so that we could also think about finishing a room or two, or at least three, so that they can move from the residence of the benevolent individual.”

According to the MP, the Common Fund allocation required for the security works has now become available and the Assembly is processing its release. He added that the District Assembly has also made provision in its 2026 budget to assist the community with the outstanding works.

The intervention, he explained, is intended to allow residents to leave the private residence currently being used as a CHPS facility. That residence was offered to the community by a benevolent individual who continues to provide temporary space for healthcare delivery.

The development effort was also discussed at a recent community durbar attended by more than 200 residents and several Assembly members. During the engagement, issues surrounding the CHPS compound, roads and the E-Block were presented for consideration.

Honourable Lukutor also acknowledged the contribution of the Catholic Bishop of the Jasikan Diocese and committees formed at local, regional and national levels to support the peace and development process. He indicated that collaboration among the various community groups has helped strengthen efforts towards addressing community needs.

Health Facilities Face Pressure As MP Outlines Priority Projects

Health infrastructure remains a major development priority in the South Tongu constituency as several facilities require renovation, equipment and additional structures. The South Tongu MP indicated that interventions are being arranged in stages to improve services and reduce pressure on major facilities in Sogakope.

Discussing the situation, Mr Lukutor identified Dzebetato, Agordome and surrounding towns among the communities requiring attention. He recalled that the health facilities at Agbakope and Dordorkope has already received renovation support while work on a laboratory at Dordorkope was being supported by the community.

The MP explained that the number of facilities requiring attention made it difficult to complete every project within a short period. Therefore, priority would be given to facilities according to their immediate needs and available resources.

Meanwhile, the condition of roads and access routes has been closely linked to development in the area. Mr Lukutor identified the proposed bridge over the stream as an important intervention that could improve access to the E-Block and connect communities within the constituency.

Referencing the road network, he explained that several stretches have already received regravelling to improve movement between communities. Travel time from Agave Afedome to the main road has been reduced considerably following those interventions.

The proposed bridge would also support students travelling to the E-Block from the Anlo Aflao enclave. According to the MP, lobbying efforts would continue with the Roads Minister to secure the construction of the crossing once the necessary road works are addressed.

The E-Block itself is also awaiting further action following changes to the original project arrangement. Honourable Lukutor disclosed that the contractor was going through a re-award process because the original contract was initiated more than a decade ago and several conditions had since changed.

“There are so many challenges that confront us on a daily basis that we’ll only have to prioritise those that have to be done first.”

Honourable Maxwell Kwame Lukutor

He explained that variations are being prepared to facilitate a new contract and allow the contractor to return to the site. Once the building is completed and the road network improves, attention can then turn to establishing the proposed bridge connection.

The MP also stressed that development challenges encompasses the South Tongu constituency and require careful prioritisation. His position was that available resources should first address projects with the greatest immediate impact on residents.
