Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim is set to spend an extended period on the sidelines after suffering a serious ankle injury during Sunday’s Ghana Premier League defeat to Aduana FC.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury in stoppage time at the Baba Yara Stadium as Kotoko pushed to prevent Aduana from scoring a second goal.
Danlad rushed out of his penalty area to deal with a counter-attack involving Aduana midfielder Seidu Saana, but fell awkwardly while attempting to stop the danger.
Saana went on to find the back of the net, sealing a 2-0 victory for the visitors and handing Aduana their first league win away to Kotoko in five years.
The Kotoko goalkeeper immediately required medical attention following the incident and was unable to continue.
He was subsequently stretchered off the pitch and replaced by Aziz Dari, who completed the match in goal for the Porcupine Warriors.
The extent of Danlad’s injury was initially unclear, with the goalkeeper undergoing further medical examinations following the game.
Kotoko Confirm Extent of Goalkeeper’s Injury
Asante Kotoko have now confirmed that the injury is more serious than initially feared, with medical tests revealing a fracture to his left ankle.
In an official update, the club said: “Goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad is expected to be sidelined for an extended period after an extensive radiological examination revealed a fracture to his left ankle joint.”
The club also expressed its support for the goalkeeper during his recovery.
The injury represents a major setback for Danlad, who had returned to Asante Kotoko ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign after previously leaving the club in 2024.
The goalkeeper rejoined his boyhood club following a two-year spell with Ethiopian Coffee SC and had established himself as Kotoko’s first-choice goalkeeper at the beginning of the season.
However, after featuring in only four league matches since his return, Danlad will now face an extended period away from competitive action.
His absence leaves Kotoko with Aziz Dari as one of the immediate options between the posts as the team looks to navigate a difficult start to the campaign.
Kotoko’s defeat to Aduana compounded their early-season struggles, with the Porcupine Warriors managing just one victory from their opening four league matches.
They have collected five points from those games and currently sit 13th in the Ghana Premier League standings.
The club will now have to cope without Danlad as they seek to arrest their poor run of form, while the goalkeeper begins what could be a lengthy rehabilitation process.
For Danlad, the priority will be a full recovery from the ankle fracture before making his return to first-team football.
His injury also adds to the challenges facing Kotoko at a crucial stage of the season, with the club needing to find a reliable solution in goal while their first-choice goalkeeper remains unavailable.
