The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its newly elected constituency executives and unsuccessful aspirants to prioritise unity and reconciliation following the party’s nationwide constituency executive elections held on October 24 and 25, 2026.

General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah congratulated the successful candidates and commended party members, electoral committees and other stakeholders for what they described as a generally peaceful exercise.

Their messages emphasised the need for humility, integrity and continued cooperation as the governing party reorganises its grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“Our strength lies in our unity, and our success depends on our collective effort.”

In a congratulatory message following the elections, Mr Kwetey extended his appreciation to aspirants who secured executive positions and acknowledged the contributions of stakeholders who helped facilitate the process.

He urged the newly elected executives to approach their responsibilities with humility, integrity and dedication, stressing that their leadership should strengthen party structures and advance the NDC’s collective objectives.

Mr Kwetey also addressed aspirants who did not win their contests, thanking them for their participation and commitment to the party. He encouraged them to put aside differences arising from the internal contests and work alongside the successful candidates to build a stronger and more united organisation.

According to the General Secretary, reconciliation after the elections would be essential to maintaining cohesion within the party and ensuring that the internal competition did not undermine its broader political objectives. He congratulated the new executives and expressed confidence that they would use their tenure to serve the party effectively.

Asiedu Nketiah Commends Candidates and Electoral Stakeholders

National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah also congratulated the successful candidates, describing their election as a responsibility to manage the party’s affairs at the constituency level.

In his message, he commended candidates for the discipline they demonstrated during their campaigns and praised members for the restraint and maturity they showed throughout the electoral process.

He also acknowledged the contributions of electoral committees, regional and constituency officers, and other stakeholders who worked to ensure that the elections were conducted in an open, orderly, and peaceful manner.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah urged unsuccessful aspirants to remain actively involved in party activities, noting that members who accepted electoral outcomes and continued to contribute had helped strengthen the NDC over the years.

He stressed that losing an internal contest should not prevent party members from serving the organisation or contributing to its development. “Your contribution remains necessary,” he told those who contested but were unsuccessful, reinforcing his appeal for continued participation beyond the elections.

The Chairman’s message placed particular emphasis on the responsibilities of the new executives, who will oversee party organisation and engagement with members at the constituency level.

Elections Form Part of NDC’s Internal Reorganisation

The constituency elections formed part of the NDC’s broader internal reorganisation programme, which is intended to renew its leadership structures from the grassroots to the national level ahead of the 2028 general elections.

About 15,000 aspirants were expected to contest various executive positions across the party’s 276 constituencies, according to reports published ahead of the exercise. The positions included constituency chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, secretaries, treasurers, organisers, communications officers, women organisers and youth organisers, among others.

The elections were scheduled for Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, with the Electoral Commission working alongside the party’s election committees to conduct the polls. The Ghana Police Service was responsible for security during the exercise.

On Sunday morning, the party’s Acting Director of Elections and IT, Mahdi M. Gabrill, indicated in a Facebook post that elections were scheduled to take place in 12 constituencies to complete the exercise across all 276 constituencies. The remaining contests were in the Oti, Eastern and Ashanti regions.

The completion of the constituency elections marks an important stage in the party’s preparations for subsequent internal contests, which will determine its leadership at the regional and national levels.

Regional and National Elections Ahead

The NDC’s internal electoral programme will continue with regional executive elections scheduled for November 14 and 15, 2026, preceded by the Regional Youth and Women Conference on November 13.

The party’s National Youth and Women Conference is scheduled for December 12, while the National Congress is expected to take place on December 19 to elect national executive officers.

As the party proceeds with the next stages of its reorganisation, the appeals from Mr Kwetey and Mr Asiedu Nketiah highlight the importance of maintaining unity beyond the constituency contests.

Both leaders have urged successful and unsuccessful aspirants to remain committed to the party, with the new executives expected to strengthen grassroots structures, listen to members, and protect the NDC’s ideals and the legacy of President John Dramani Mahama.

Their messages underscore a shared expectation that the conclusion of the elections should mark the beginning of renewed cooperation rather than prolonged divisions among competing factions.
