The latest recognition adds to Mr. Haruna’s growing record of industry achievements, following his earlier recognition as Fintech CEO of the Year at the MTN Group Global Leadership Gathering in 2026.

His consecutive wins at the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards reflect the leadership role he has played in positioning MMFL within Ghana’s evolving digital finance landscape.
His leadership has coincided with a significant transformation of the company’s operations, particularly the separation of Scancom PLC’s mobile money business into a dedicated fintech entity.
The transition is expected to strengthen the company’s strategic focus, operational independence and capacity to develop financial technology services.
MMFL Strengthens Its Fintech Positioning
One of the most significant developments under Mr. Haruna’s leadership in 2026 was the structural separation of Scancom PLC’s mobile money business, which took effect on March 31.
The transition involved the statutory merger of MobileMoney Ltd. into MobileMoney Fintech LTD, establishing a dedicated business structure to support the company’s fintech ambitions. The development also addressed localisation requirements under the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987), which provides the regulatory framework for payment systems and services in Ghana.

As Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Haruna oversaw the transition, positioning the company to concentrate on expanding its financial technology operations while strengthening regulatory compliance and service delivery.
The business has also recorded encouraging financial and operational performance. MoMo revenue increased by 35.7 per cent in 2025, while active users reached 19.3 million, demonstrating the growing importance of mobile money in Ghana’s financial services market.
Revenue growth continued during the first half of 2026, supported by basic mobile money services, digital payments and lending activities.
These developments highlight the expanding role of digital financial platforms in facilitating transactions, improving access to financial services and supporting economic participation.

Mr. Haruna has consistently advocated policies and industry practices that can strengthen consumer confidence and create sustainable conditions for fintech development.
At the 3i Africa Summit, he emphasised the importance of stronger consumer protection in digital lending, interoperability and shared financial infrastructure. These priorities reflect the need for financial technology companies to expand access while ensuring that innovation is supported by appropriate safeguards.
Driving Collaboration and Digital Financial Inclusion
Mr. Haruna’s contribution to the fintech industry has extended beyond MMFL’s corporate operations, with particular attention to collaboration among financial institutions, technology companies, regulators and other ecosystem stakeholders.
Through the Fintech Partner Exchange, he supported collective efforts to address digital fraud and encouraged the sharing of discussions and outcomes with relevant stakeholders.
His position on emerging financial technologies has also focused on ensuring that new services build on existing infrastructure.
In discussions surrounding digital assets, virtual assets and tokenisation, he called for stronger collaboration between banks and fintech companies to develop innovative financial products using Ghana’s established mobile money infrastructure.
He further contributed to the MTN Group Fintech Summit’s Africa’s Velocity Index CEO panel, which examined financial health, resilience and market maturity across the industry.
The discussions highlighted the importance of building financial systems that go beyond transaction volumes to deliver meaningful economic value to individuals, households and businesses.
His engagement with the media has also formed part of this broader industry development agenda.
Through the Fintech Media Development Series, Mr. Haruna engaged journalists on fintech strategy, financial inclusion, cybersecurity and consumer protection.
The initiative sought to strengthen journalists’ understanding of the financial technology sector and improve the quality and accuracy of public reporting on developments within the industry.

“Regulation, trust and technology must work together to support the sustainable growth of digital finance.”
At the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards High-Level Dialogue, he also highlighted the importance of digital financial records in expanding access to credit, savings and investment.
The argument centres on the economic opportunities created when individuals and businesses can build reliable digital transaction histories.

Such records can provide financial institutions with useful information for assessing creditworthiness, potentially improving access to financing for individuals and small businesses that may lack conventional collateral.
Investing in Ghana’s Next Generation of Fintech Innovators
MoMo Fintech Lab believes in developing the next generation of financial technology professionals and entrepreneurs remains another important component of Mr. Haruna’s leadership agenda.
This commitment is reflected in the MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide programme convened by MMFL in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other fintech ecosystem players.
The initiative provides opportunities for students, software developers, entrepreneurs, startups and innovators to develop practical solutions to challenges within the financial services industry.
By connecting emerging innovators with industry expertise and opportunities for development, the programme seeks to transform promising ideas into practical financial products and services.
The initiative also supports broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s digital innovation ecosystem by encouraging young people to participate in developing solutions that respond to the country’s financial inclusion and economic development needs.
Commenting on his latest recognition, Mr. Haruna expressed appreciation to the organisers, while acknowledging the contributions of his team and partners across the fintech industry.
“I am honored to receive this award for the second consecutive year. I share this recognition with the MMFL team and our partners across the fintech ecosystem. We remain committed to building trusted financial services, strengthening collaboration and nurturing the talent that will shape the future of fintech in Ghana.”
