A former Rector of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Professor Joshua Alabi, has picked the nomination forms on behalf of former President John Dramani Mahama, to enable him contest in the flag bearership elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Prof Alabi stated that the NDC has gone through all its “structures and elections”, and it is time for the party to elect its flagbearer to “deliver the 2024” win. He indicated that former President John Mahama is the person to bring the party victory in the election.

“We are here to pick up the forms for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. As you are aware, we are in very difficult times in this country, the economy is in shambles, people are suffering and the summary here is that people are crying for the NDC to come back.”

Prof Joshua Alabi

Speaking at the party headquarters today, February 22, 2023, Prof Alabi stated that Ghanaians are asking for a well-experienced leader to spearhead the country. He emphasized that “leadership counts”, as such, there is the need for one who has the track record, humility, love for the people and possesses strong beliefs in people-centered policies.

“Fortunately for us in the NDC, as a country, we have somebody like that. We are here to pick his form and to work for him and work for the NDC and work for the people of Ghana.”

Victory assured for NDC in 2024 elections

Commenting on the fortunes of the NDC in the 2024 election, Prof Alabi highlighted that victory is assured for the party. He explained that Ghanaians are in dire need of a leader who can bring transformational change to the country and relieve it of the current economic crisis.

“On January 2025, NDC will be forming the new government under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. The NDC has done it before, and the party has very experienced hands to assist His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to do it again.

“Somewhere in the 80’s when it was very difficult in this country, it was the experienced hands of people from the NDC who were able to move the country from a very challenging moment to prosperity. Again, we have a similar challenge, we have the experienced hands, and they are all available and ready to support His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.”

Furthermore, Prof Alabi assured other contestants vying for the flagbearership of smooth conduct of the internal election. He expressed his love for all of them and indicated that the party will “invite them” to join in the victory.

“I assure the people of this country, that under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, within a matter of two years, you’ll see signs of development. We’ll first stimulate a move and I’m very confident that the NPP will never see power again in this country…”

Prof Joshua Alabi

His Excellency John Mahama had earlier declared his intention to contest for the presidency in the 2024 presidential election. The former President made this disclosure when members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament paid him a visit at his residence.

Meanwhile, one of the contestants, Ernest Kwaku Kobeah, has also picked the nomination forms to enable him to contest for the flagbearer position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He expressed confidence of a victory. However, responding to the victory margin he is expecting, he stated that he has no comment on that.

“I am here to stand and build the new Ghana, I am not here for the future, I am here for [the] now.”
