Ghanaian music superstar Sarkodie has described Okra Tom Dawidi as a “top guy” considering his exploits in the early days of Ghanaian rap music.

Okra Tom Dawidi is considered one of the trailblazers who sparked “Kasahari” rap vibes in Ghana, with numerous hit singles to his credit.

The songs of Okra Tom Dawidi were often referred to as the “Kasaharilist” and still echo in mainstream media, having won numerous lifetime achievement awards.

Sarkodie and Edem, in a social media post on Wednesday, lauded Okra Tom Dawidi as one of Ghana’s greatest music icons, with some netizens also praising Okra Tom Dawidi’s efforts.

Okra Tom Dawidi who is now a business mogul, in response to the praises from Sarkodie and Edem, was grateful to them for their recognition and was happy about how far they had come in their respective careers.

He said in an interview:

“It feels great to get these commendations from Sarkodie and Edem, and I really appreciate their efforts in pushing Ghanaian rap to the next level.

“As one of the pioneers of Ghanaian trap music, I am pleased with their progress, and together we can help push Ghanaian music further on the international stage”.

In recent months, Okra Tom Dawidi dropped the video of his song “You No Get Money”, featuring Reggie Rockstone, which is available on YouTube.

Sarkodie is known as one of Ghanaian’s best rappers, songwriters, and entrepreneurs. His contributions to the Ghanaian music industry have earned him numerous accolades, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for “Artiste of the Decade”.

He was announced the first winner of BET’s Best International Flow artist at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards. He is also considered one of the major proponents of the Azonto genre and dance and one of the most successful African rappers of all time.

Sarkodie often raps in his native language Twi, a Ghanaian Language, and is considered a “multifaceted rapper” due to the various musical styles he possesses. Sarkodie is often named one of Africa’s greatest hip-hop artists.

Also, Edem is a Ghanaian recording artist and entertainer. In 2015, he was awarded Best International Act-Africa at the Black Canadian Awards in Canada.

He beat Mafikizolo (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Davido (Nigeria), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Oritse Femi (Nigeria), and Teeyah (Ivory Coast) to win the award.

He topped the 2014 4syte TV Music Video Awards with 3 awards for Best Directed, Best Photography, and Most Outstanding Video for “The One” featuring SwayUK directed by Gyo Gyimah.

Emmanuel Ralph Kotei Nikoi, known by the stage name Okra Tom Dawidi or Da Kasaharilist, is a Ghanaian hiplife musician, best known for his debut hit single “Ayekoo”, which features Obrafour and Tinny.

Okra Tom Dawidi, the third of three children, was born in La, Accra on the 16th of December 1984 to Mrs. Grace Kaaley Amarh, a trader, and Mr. Vincent Nikoi Kotey, former chief supply officer of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

He attended St. John’s Preparatory and Junior High school in Achimota. He then proceeded to the Accra Technical Training Center. Okra Tom Dawidi had always wanted to be an engineer and a professional musician.

Okra Tom Dawidi was first introduced to Hammer of the Last Two by a friend, and the two worked on songs such as ‘Ayekoo’, and ‘Donto’ among others.

He was featured on the Execution Diary album in 2003. He is noted for his unique style of storytelling.

He has collaborated with several artists, such as Sarkodie, Kwaw Kese, Tinny, Obrafour, Kwabena Kwabena, and Reggie Rockstone among others.

Okra Tom Dawidi has constantly been featured in the Ghanaian animated series, ‘Tales of Nazir’.
