Alan Kyerematen, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that the credibility of the candidate and the style of the ruling party’s campaigning, would be key factors in the general elections of 2024.

He stated that the choice of a candidate, campaign message, and campaign strategy of all political parties will be vital components in determining the outcome of the elections in Ghana in 2024.

According to Mr. Kyerematen, these elements will not only influence the election’s final result but also decide the degree of support and trust that the candidate may receive from the people.

Due to his widespread appeal, the front-runner in the NPP Presidential primary, underlined the significance of selecting a candidate with the credibility to win the trust of the electorates.

“Credibility is a key factor that voters consider when making their decision at the polls. A candidate with a strong track record of integrity, competence, and commitment to the welfare of the people will have a higher chance of winning the support of the electorate.”

The former Trade and Industry Minister stated that “the evidence is clear that I have the potential to attract over two million votes and gain support from the Volta region.” This according to Alan Cash is significant because it emphasizes how crucial regional support is to Ghana’s political system.

However, Alan Kyerematen specifically mentioned that the Volta region, which has historically been considered to be a stronghold of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is one of the regions where the NPP must intentionally step up its game to improve its political fortunes.

Moreover, he added that he alone has the ability to cross partisan divides and draw supporters from all political perspectives. The long-serving Minister of Trade and Industry disputed the idea that Voltarians disliked him, claiming that they were instead calling for his candidacy.

The selection of a Presidential candidate, campaign theme, and campaign strategy will indeed be crucial in determining the results of the elections as Ghana prepares for its 2024 elections. In the meantime, Ghana’s political scene is preparing for the impending NPP Presidential Primaries on November 4, 2023, which will choose the party’s Flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Kyerematen Prepared To Take Up Rawlings’ Mantle

The people of the Volta Region were also given assurances by Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen that, should they back him in his bid for the Presidency, he would be willing to assume the role of late President Jerry John Rawlings as their godfather.

Speaking to representatives from various constituencies who had gathered in Aflao in Ketu South, Dzodze in the North, and Sogakope in Central Tongu, respectively, Mr. Kyerematen urged representatives in the area to support him in the November NPP primaries and ultimately in the 2024 elections to become President of the country, so he could continue the constructive role the late President had played in the development of the Region.

Alan Cash claimed that the late President Rawlings’ charm could easily be seen in him and as such, pleaded with the people of Volta to love him as much as they loved the late President, in order to help him lead the country and make sure that the Region receives its rightful piece of the national cake.

To help the NPP “break the eight,” the former Minister of Trade and Industry asked delegates to choose a leader who has been tried and tested and has a broad appeal, rather than the candidate who would just serve as the party’s flagbearer but will fail to win the general election.

Hon. Kyerematen iterated that even in the NDC’s stronghold of the Volta region, he is still the only candidate in the NPP who can march them “boot-for-boot.” He promised the delegates that, if elected as the flagbearer, he would implement a plan to pay the party executives monthly wages, which would improve both themselves and the executives’ fortunes.

Hon. John Peter Amewu, Minister for Railways and Member of Parliament for Hohoe, in support of Mr. Kyerematen urged delegates to cast their votes en masse for Hon. Kyerematen.

He urged delegates to put an end to the fear factor and allow no one to frighten them, stating that even though he has publicly supported Hon. Kyerematen in his capacity as a cabinet minister, the President has not reprimanded him for doing so. Mr. Amewu also advised attendees to vote for Hon. Kyerematen to become President and to be willing to make sacrifices for the welfare of Ghana.
