National Peace Council Delegates Attacked AT NDC’s HQ

A delegation from the National Peace Council led by its chairman, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi has been attacked at the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) headquarters in Accra.

The delegation’s on a visit to the party’s headquarters, was to have a discussion with the party in connection with the dispute surrounding the release of the 2020 election results.

The Chairman of the National Peace Council who led the delegation confirmed that upon arrival, angry youth of the NDC gathered at the forecourt of the party’s headquarters, welcomed them with stones, gunshots, and other dangerous weapons, and prevented them from accessing the premises.

As recounted by Rev. Adu-Gyamfi, the members of the delegation were physically abused and some beaten to a pulp. In addition, the agitated crowd further damaged two of the vehicles they were using and managed to destroy some of their personal items.

“We were met with serious hostilities and violence at the NDC headquarters. As I speak now, board members who were part of the delegation are psychologically traumatized,” he said.

Rev. Adu-Gyamfi said their purpose for being at the headquarters was to sit with the party’s leadership to discuss the allegations of election malpractices made by the NDC, and to find headway to peacefully resolve the differences for the sake of the country.

After the incident, Rev. Adu-Gyamfi said the board members of the Council however, were able to meet the leaders of the National Democratic Congress who were rather cooperative.

Unfortunately, much could not be discussed as members of the board were traumatized by the incident, and asked for ample time to regain composure before any discussions can proceed.

The executives of the NDC has since not commented on the incident. However, the party held a press conference in the late hours of Thursday, December 10, 2020. Flagbearer of the party, former President John Dramani Mahama at this press conference broke his silence after the declaration of the presidential results by the Electoral Commissioner on Wednesday.

The flagbearer re-echoed the NDC’s decision not to accept the results of the presidential election declared by the EC.

Howbeit, he noted that he conceded, stepped aside and also saw to the peaceful transfer of power to the incumbent in 2016 because he understood that was the will of the people.  He further stated that, it will not be that same this time as “the will of the people have been subverted.

“That is why I stand before you tonight, unwilling to accept the fictionalized results of a flawed election.”
