The campaign team of Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has debunked rumors of the possible withdrawal of Kennedy Agyapong from the flagberarership race of the party.

According to the team, the rumor comes in the wake of the withdrawal of Mr John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen from the race on Monday, September 4, 2023.

“Our attention has been drawn to a rumor making the rounds, particularly on social media that Honourable Ken Ohene Agyapong will soon be announcing his withdrawal from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) Presidential primaries scheduled for November 4 this year.

“We wish to state unequivocally that Honourable Ken Ohene Agyapong is committed to staying in the race, and at no point has he contemplated withdrawing from the contest.”

Contained in a statement dated September 7, 2023, the team assured all supporters that it is putting in place all the necessary strategies to ensure a “Showdown” come November 4. In light of this, it urged party supporters to remain committed to the aspirations of Kennedy Agyapong.

“We therefore call on the general public especially our teeming supporters and cherished delegates of the NPP to disregard the rumor and treat with utmost contempt any news or message that purports the withdrawal of Ken from the race.”

Dr Bawumia tipped to win November 4 elections

Following the withdrawal of Alan Kyerematen from the NPP flagbearership race, throngs of supporters from the Vice President’s camp have thrown invitation to other aspirants to join Dr Bawumia to consolidate the party’s win in 2024.

Meanwhile, a senior Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng, has revealed that the November 4 presidential primaries will deliver a win to Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, it will be a surprise for delegates to vote for Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong. He contended that once Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has withdrawn from the race due to electoral irregularities and unfair treatment and bias during the super delegates’ conference, it portends a guaranteed win for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“It’s a one-horse race and a straight win for Dr. Bawumia. I will be surprised if people in the NPP vote for Kennedy Agyapong. Kennedy Agyapong socially, traditionally, intellectually, he’s not a presidential material, and this must show. Ghanaians must demonstrate that we care about people who become our Presidents.”

Moreover, Dr Amakye stated that one criterion in literature of development, especially one that borders on the development of poor countries, has a key argument about leadership. He explained that leadership matters, and that political leaders in such countries should be knowledgeable, “at least in economics”.

To this end, he emphasized that the requirement for knowledgeability makes him question “the last school Kennedy Agyapong attended” and also what he learnt.

Elsewhere, political science lecturer, Prof Ransford Gyampo, predicted that more candidates will soon withdraw from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s presidential primaries. He indicated that the processes for the exercise have not been managed well in the interest of the party.

Owing to this, Prof Gyampo advised the party to urgently address the issues surrounding the elections. He indicated that this, if not done, can affect the party’s unity ahead of the 2024 general elections.
