There Will Be A Comprehensive Review Of Free SHS – Alan

Alan Kyerematen

The now independent presidential aspirant and former Trade Minister, Mr. Alan Kyerematen says there will be a comprehensive review on the Free Senior High School flagship program of the Nana Addo’s government if he becomes president.

While commending the government on the feat achieved by rolling out the program, he promised that, under his government there will be a review of the program.

“There will be a comprehensive review on Free SHS” he said.

Government Launches Accountability Series to Deepen Transparency

He praised the ideation of the policy by the government as perfect but thought the policy, notwithstanding, needs a relook to put it in a better shape for the onward development of the nation’s human resources. “The original idea is perfect”, he added.

He outlined three key areas where his government will focus on during the review of the program. They included; financial sustainability, infrastructure expansion and community day school system.

Mr. Kyerematen pointed out that during the review, his government will ascertain the financial strength of the nation to sustain the policy. He also added that his government will consider how the nation could mobilise money to continue with the popular Free Senior High School policy.

“We will check whether government has the resource to implement the program sustainably … how do we mobilise money to continue with the program?”

He further pledged that his government will expand infrastructure to accommodate the increasing demand.

“We will look at the attached boarding school infrastructure system. First, going forward, we will need to expand the infrastructure”

Mr. Kyerematen also promised that his government will also rejuvenate the Community Day school the NDC government begun. He praised the Mahama led administration for its focus on building community day senior high schools across the country and pledged to renew the country’s commitment on that policy. He also said he will make it better.

“Community day senior high schools will also be rejuvenated. I will like us to look at how to improve it.”

In addition, Alan Kyerematen emphasized that all his policies secondary education won’t be at the neglect of basic education. He bemoaned the nation’s lack of attention to basic education.

The former Trade Minister pledged his commitment to the development of basic education too.

“Free SHS has made us forget basic education. We are not paying enough attention to basic education in all its forms. Teacher education, curriculum development.”

Alan To Contest 2024 General Elections As Independent Candidate

The former Trade Minister and former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyerematen, has formally resigned from the party and expressed his intention to contest in the 2024 general elections as an independent candidate.

“I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate.”

Alan Kyerematen

In addressing the press at a long-awaited forum to tell the nation his future in Ghana’s politics, he indicated that the NPP has little semblance to the party he joined in 1992. He mentioned that the party has been hijacked by government apparatchiks, hence his breakaway.

He further indicated that the just-ended Super Delegates Conference was skewed in favour of one candidate. This and other issues of violence and brutalities arising from the NPP Super Delegates Conference in August has made it clear to the former Trade Minister to resign from the party.

“It was absolutely clear … that the super delegates conference was strategically and tactically skewed, maneuvered in favour of one particular candidate.”

Alan Kyerematen

Mr. Kyerematen has thus formed a movement, Movement for Change with butterfly as its symbol, which is set to deliver to him his presidential ambitions.
