The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indefinitely postponed the parliamentary primaries in the Odododiodio constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

The decision by the National Democratic Congress to postpone it parliamentary primaries in the Odododiodido Constituency according to a statement by the party’s General Secretary, Fii Fiavi Kwetey was occasioned by a court injunction obtained by a disqualified candidate, Michael Nii Yarboi Annan, who contested his exclusion from the parliamentary primaries.

Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey in his press statement affirmed that all activities related to the primaries in the Odododiodio constituency have been temporarily halted resulting from the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party resolution in a meeting on January 16, 2024, to postpone the election indefinitely, in response to the legal action taken by the disqualified candidate.

The statement further clarified that the disqualified candidate, Michael Nii Yarboi Annan, sought legal recourse against the decision that prevented him from participating in the primary and in view of that the court granted an interlocutory injunction, effectively restraining the National Democratic Congress from conducting the election until the matter is resolved.

“We wish to inform you that the party was served with a notice of interlocutory injunction by a parliamentary candidate aspirant of the Odododiodoo constituency who was disqualified from contesting the primaries.”

NDC Calls For Peace Amidst Primaries Postponement

Again, Mr Fifi Kwetey indicated that the National Democratic Congress in the light of the developments, has called upon all branch and constituency executives to uphold peace and harmony during the period of postponement of the parliamentary primaries in the Odododiodio Constituency.

He thus expressed his sincerest regret for the inconvenience the postponement of the parliamentary primaries may cause to the various and respective parties involved in the Odododiodio Constituency.

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress further assured the members and supporters of the party in the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra Region that the party would in due course announce the new date for the conduct of the primaries.

Meanwhile, some Concerned Members and Delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Odododiodioo Constituency have expressed their concern over what they perceive as actions by the National Executive Committee (NEC) that could jeopardise the party’s fortunes  in the constituency.

The delegates, representing the National Democratic Congress in Odododiodioo, in a press conference called for a reconsideration of the party’s decision to disqualify Mr Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from the party’s parliamentary primaries, stating that the decision could threaten the party’s fortunes in the constituency.

The Concerned Delegates questioned the fairness of disqualifying Mr Annan while allowing other candidates with alleged irregularities, such as dual nationality, to contest and strongly argued that such actions can go against the principles of fairness and fidelity to the National Democratic Congress Constitution.

In view of their claims, the Concerned Delegates thus called for the reinstatement of Mr Michael Nii Yarboi Annan to contest in the parliamentary primaries, emphasizing that the decision to disqualify him is not in the party’s best interest.

They warned that excluding Mr Annan from the contest could lead to a boycott of both the parliamentary primaries and the 2024 General Elections by party members and constituents, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring that the will of the people prevails.

They thus urged the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress to allow delegates to decide the party’s leadership in the constituency through a fair and transparent process.
