NPP Announces Protocols for Upcoming Parliamentary Primaries

The National Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially released protocols governing the upcoming parliamentary primaries scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

In a statement released on Monday, January 22 2024, these protocols were carefully formulated to ensure and uphold the integrity and fairness of the electoral process as the party prepares for a crucial phase in its internal elections.

The National Secretariat of the governing New Patriotic disclosed that there would be one voting center designated for each constituency across the nation, however, in constituencies with a large number of delegates, the Electoral Commission (EC) reserves the right to create additional polling stations at the center to expedite the voting process.

According to the statement, all the various stakeholders, including party members, contestants, and officials, are strongly urged to adhere to these provisions to guarantee a seamless and transparent electoral exercise.

EC Tasks To Supervise NPP Saturday’s Parliamentary Primaries

Furthermore, the statement indicated that the Electoral Commission of Ghana has been tasked with overseeing the parliamentary primaries and bears the full responsibility of ensuring a transparent, free, and fair election.

According to the statement, no person, whether a government appointee, party official, or otherwise, shall act in contravention of the Electoral Commission and the party’s  formulated guidelines for it Saturday’s January 27 parliamentary primaries.

Emphasizing the role of security in maintaining order during the primaries, the statement clarified that security activities are exclusively under the purview of the Ghana Police Service.

The statement stated that access beyond security perimeters is restricted to authorized individuals, including delegates, persons appointed by the National Secretariat and Region as election supervisors, contestants, and their accredited agents.

Moreover, the protocols according to the statement underscore the New Patriotic Party’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring a level playing field for all contestants.

The New Patriotic Party aimed to create an environment where the will of the delegates can be expressed freely, without interference or compromise.

As the political landscape intensifies in the lead-up to the parliamentary primaries, the New Patriotic Party called on its members, stakeholders, and the public to cooperate with the outlined protocols.

The National Secretariat of the governing New Patriotic Party further assured all delegates that these measures are in place to facilitate a smooth, transparent, and fair process, reflecting the party’s dedication to democratic values.

According to the statement, the Electoral Commission and security agencies are expected to play pivotal roles in safeguarding the credibility of the primaries as the party and the entire country eagerly anticipates the outcome of the New Patriotic Party’s internal primaries on Saturday, January 27 2024.
