Gospel Musicians Losing Spirituality

In recent years, there has been a noticeable shift in the way some gospel musicians in Ghana approach their music. Some artists have been criticized for prioritizing self-promotion, fame, and material gain over the core message of the gospel.

This shift can be attributed to a variety of factors, including the influence of mainstream music, the desire for commercial success, and the changing tastes of the audience.

However, it is essential to recognize that not all Ghanaian gospel musicians have diverted from preaching the gospel. Many artists continue to use their music as a means to spread messages of faith, hope, and salvation.

These musicians prioritize the spiritual content of their songs and strive to touch the lives of their listeners positively.

It is also important to acknowledge that artists, regardless of their genre, are individuals with varying motivations and goals. While some may prioritize self-promotion, others may genuinely seek to use their platform to inspire and uplift their audience.

Gospel musician Apostle Lenny Akpadie revealed that the gospel music industry is losing its fire and becoming more carnal by the day.

According to him, the gospel music industry which is being carnalised by the dress and appearance of some gospel artists, is leading people astray.

“Your attention is on the dress the ladies are wearing more than the message. You’re looking at how they move themselves and it’s so attractive that you lose the message. We are getting less and less of spiritualized sheep doing gospel music and introducing of the world.”

The ‘Most High God’ hitmaker cited Piesie Esther, who he claims shows her cleavage in pictures, and Empress Gifty, who according to him promotes herself more than the work of God, as examples of carnalisation in the gospel music industry.

“Gifty came here last week. She was talking about her brand and promoting herself. That’s carnality! There’s an extent to which you promote your work because what you are looking for, God is looking for it for you more than yourself,” he stated.

Despite his view, the ‘Great Things’ composer explained “I’m not saying that she should not promote her event. I’m saying that she should preach the Christ. She should talk about people encountering the Holy Ghost during the event. That’s the message we are carrying in songs.”

Apostle Lenny Akpadie graced the gospel industry with spirit-filled songs between the early and late 90s.

Ultimately, it is up to the listeners to discern and support gospel musicians who genuinely prioritize preaching the gospel over self-promotion. By supporting artists who stay true to the core message of the gospel, listeners can contribute to the preservation and promotion of the spiritual aspect of Ghanaian gospel music.

Lenny Akpadie Condemns MOG Music Over Anti-LGBTQ+ Comments

Legendary gospel musician Apostle Lenny Akpadie has lambasted his colleague, MOG Music, over his recent response to Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

Recently, MOG Music publicly revealed that he did not want to take sides on issues regarding the controversial bill.

Later, he claimed that his position on the matter was in tandem with what the Bible says about homosexuality.

The “Oh Be Lifted” singer noted that he can speak about his stance on the issue privately but not on air.

MOG Music further stated that he had decided to remain neutral on that matter to protect his image.

Apostle Lenny Akpadie revealed that most gospel musicians avoid such controversial discussions due to concerns about potential disruptions or delays in their plans to travel abroad.

The veteran singer vehemently asserted that he holds a negative stance towards the LGBTQ+ community, noting that it contradicts his personal beliefs.

“I take my stand, and my stand is that I am against it because God is against it. I stick my neck out as a servant of God, and I am against it to the core. Whatever God is against, I am against.”

Nonetheless, the Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill passed by parliament in February, is still pending and awaits President Akufo-Addo’s assent to be made an act or law.
