Absa Bank Ghana LTD has announced the appointment of Edward Nartey Botchway as its substantive Managing Director.
Mr Edward Nartey Botchway steps into the role following Adolph Kpegah, who served as the Interim Managing Director during the transition period.
A statement issued by Absa Bank Ghana described Mr. Botchway as an accomplished banker with over 20 years of diverse experience in business leadership, finance, strategy, operational efficiency, and performance management. His extensive background in the financial sector positions him well to steer the bank towards achieving its strategic goals.
Edward Botchway joins Absa Bank Ghana LTD from Ecobank, where he held several prominent roles. Notably, he served as the Managing Director of Ecobank Liberia and the Regional Consumer Head for Anglophone West Africa, which includes Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Gambia.
His responsibilities also extended to roles such as the Regional Chief Finance Officer for Anglophone West Africa and Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa, and Group Manager for Budgeting and Planning at Ecobank Transnational Incorporated in Lomé, Togo.
Beyond Ecobank, Botchway has also held executive roles in GCB Bank PLC and Citi Savings and Loans, further broadening his expertise in the banking sector.
Board Experience
In addition to his executive roles, Edward Botchway brings a wealth of board experience to Absa Bank Ghana. He has served as Board Chairperson for Ecobank Investment Managers Ltd, Ecobank Venture Capital Fund, and Ecobank Leasing. He has also been a board member for Ecobank Sierra Leone, Ecobank Liberia, Ecobank Ghana, and Exim Guaranty Company Limited. This extensive board experience is expected to enhance his leadership capabilities and strategic vision for Absa Bank Ghana.
Edward Botchway’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and a Master’s in Applied Business Research from the Swiss Business School in Zurich, Switzerland. Additionally, he has a Postgraduate degree in Contemporary Management from the Nobel International Business School (NiBS) in Accra and a BA in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.
He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in the United Kingdom, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA) in Ghana, and a member of the Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA). These qualifications underscore his expertise and commitment to excellence in the financial sector.
