Ghanaian actress and TV personality, Nana Ama McBrown has shared her insights on the importance of self-education and skill-building in the entertainment industry.

McBrown’s words of wisdom come at a time when the Ghanaian film industry is facing challenges, with many creative seeking ways to revitalize and grow.

“Whatever you are doing, whatever career you pick up, you must research it yourself or land a job aside, whatever qualification you have.”

McBrown shared her personal experience, stating, “I don’t have any qualification when it comes to acting, hosting, or anything I’m doing on TV. I learned on the job, on this field of Miracle Films, and learning on the job as a costumier.”

McBrown credited her mentor with teaching her valuable lessons.

“He will tell you, ‘Hey, where is this person that is right here thinking that he’s the star? He has not learned this. He has not learned that. The moment we get somebody who knows how to act and knows how to do this, we won’t use him again.’ So, it means that I need to equip myself for every angle of the work I want.”

The actress and producer has taken her advice to heart, directing eight movies and producing five or six others. Her achievements demonstrate that the industry is not dead, but rather, it needs structures and adaptability to thrive.

McBrown’s message serves as a call to action for creatives to take charge of their development and growth, ensuring a brighter future for the Ghanaian entertainment industry.

She said: “I have had attacks on set, but I won’t attribute it to ‘juju’. I have had attacks but I won’t say it is ‘juju’.”

Nana Ama McBrown opined that juju exists and works in every profession, but it does not affect the lives of people who have a clean heart and believe in God.

“Juju is everywhere. I would have passed away by now if ‘juju’ really worked. I would have said people envy me so that they would attack me. The power of God and your heart will shut it down before it happens.”

The actress added that she had received several approaches from friends, who have attempted to persuade her to visit spiritualists for protection.

She further denied having ties or connections with any spiritual leader in Ghana.
