However, as the glitz and glamour of showbiz continue to captivate the youth, there is a growing concern that many young people are becoming envious of the lifestyles portrayed by their favorite celebrities.
This envy leads to unrealistic aspirations and a distorted view of success. In light of this, industry experts, social commentators, and influencers urge the Ghanaian youth to recognize that showbiz is often a facade and to focus on their authentic paths.
Reggie Rockstone advises youth to resist the pressure from celebrities and what they see on social media. According to the Hiplife legend, much of what is portrayed online is not as it seems.
He also explained that many glamorous lifestyles showcased on social media are either fake or acquired through dubious means. The legendary rapper cautioned young people against envy, urging them to avoid actions that could lead to dangerous consequences.
In an exclusive interview with The Vaultz News, an entertainment pundit, Event Manager, Consultant, and CEO of Evolve Africa Company Limited, Brandford Ofori Nkuah revealed that he strongly agrees with Reggie Rockstone.
According to him, the youth are lately easily influenced by the pressure from these celebrities, stating that it is obviously through social media.
The entertainment pundit maintained that the youth being pressured might be a result of they [youth] not getting to meet celebrities in person. “It’s really alarming and the youth need to learn to position their minds and hearts in a state where they will be able to resist the pressure,” he said.
The entertainment industry is often characterized by its dazzling lights, extravagant lifestyles, and seemingly effortless success. Social media platforms amplify this illusion, allowing celebrities to curate their lives, showcasing only the highlights while concealing the struggles and sacrifices behind the scenes.
For many young Ghanaians, this creates an unrealistic benchmark for success, leading them to envy the seemingly perfect lives of their idols.
Brandford maintained that not every celebrity is living a fake life or has acquired his or her possessions through dubious means. “However, it is also 100% true that some glamorous lifestyles showcased by some celebrities on social media are fake,” he added.
“Most of these so called celebrities, go the extra mile to trend or to be the headline or if possible, the topic of conversations as far as showbiz is concerned. Most of them even borrow their cars, cloths and even perch in their friend’s luxurious houses just to make the public know they also have what it takes to be the talk of the day.”

Envy is a double-edged sword. While it motivates individuals to strive for success, it also leads to feelings of inadequacy and depression when one compares their life to the curated lives of others.
The Ghanaian youth, who are often navigating their own challenges in education, employment, and personal development, find themselves feeling despondent when they measure their progress against the seemingly effortless achievements of celebrities.
The CEO of Evolve Africa Company Limited admonished that as far as showbiz is concerned, nothing can be done about envy.
“The youth need to learn to be content with what they have and not to be envious of the possessions of celebrities.Since they don’t have what it takes to live up to the standards, they end up embarking on spiritual journeys which mostly demands human sacrifices and they end up sacrificing their loved ones for that matter.”

The constant barrage of images and stories portraying wealth and success creates a sense of urgency to attain similar status, often leading to poor decision-making, such as engaging in unethical behavior or pursuing unsustainable lifestyles.

Rather than aspiring to replicate the lives of others, young people are encouraged to focus on their unique talents, passions, and paths to success.
Prominent Ghanaian personalities have been vocal about their journeys, sharing stories of their struggles and the realities behind their success. They stress that success is not a one-size-fits-all concept and that it is essential for young people to carve out their own definitions of achievement based on their values and circumstances.
Educational institutions, community organizations, and social media platforms play a significant role in promoting this supportive environment. Workshops, mentorship programs, and discussions about mental health and self-worth empowers young people to embrace their individuality and pursue their goals without the burden of comparison.
As the allure of the showbiz world continues to grow, it is imperative for Ghanaian youth to understand that the glitz and glamour often mask a more complex reality.
According to Brandford Ofori Nkuah, the only way advocates can call for a shift in mindset among the Ghanaian youth is “to ban the use of social media platforms in Ghana.”
“Aside that, the youth would have to learn the hard way because, contentment, virtue and self discipline are always being preached by our parents at home, pastors at the churches and even teachers at schools and yet the youth still chooses to go down the path of been envious of what they see on social media.”
