The role of the police in ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections cannot be overstated. As guardians of law and order, the Ghana Police Service has continuously reassured the nation of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and the democratic process ahead of this year’s polls.

By positioning itself as a neutral arbiter and a firm enforcer of electoral laws, the police have sought to build public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.

Their early assurances of safety and security signal not only their readiness but also their dedication to protecting the sanctity of Ghana’s democracy amidst a politically charged atmosphere.

However, the Ghana Police Service has transitioned into the post-election security phase, implementing robust measures to maintain peace, security, law, and order across the country.

These incidents have prompted heightened efforts by the security agencies to curb such acts and restore normalcy.

“So far, 89 suspects have been arrested in connection with various offenses during the electoral period. Of these, 40 are directly linked to acts of vandalism, looting, and the destruction of properties.”

The Police assured Ghanaians that, all suspects would face legal proceedings, emphasizing that justice would be pursued without compromise.

The Ghana Police Service strongly cautioned the public against engaging in acts of violence or any form of unlawful activity.

“We would like to caution the public to desist from such acts of violence since the perpetrators will be arrested and taken through the due process of the law.”
