Mahama Appoints Brigadier-General As GPHA Boss

Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono as the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

The appointment was announced in an official communication from the Office of the President, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President. 

The statement highlighted Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono’s extensive experience in both the military and legal fields, positioning him as a suitable candidate for the role.

“Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono Esq is a distinguished military officer and legal professional currently serving as the Deputy Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies (NCDS) at Burma Camp, Accra”.

Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono’s academic credentials further solidify his qualifications for the position.

He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution from the George Washington School of Law, a Master’s degree in Management Studies from Osmania University in India, and a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Ghana.

Called to the Ghanaian Bar in 2015, he has since combined his legal expertise with a distinguished military career.

His professional development includes training from globally renowned institutions such as the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the United States Army Command and Staff College, and the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

Throughout his career, Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono has held significant leadership positions within the Ghana Armed Forces. 

“Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono has held key leadership roles throughout his career, including Chief Coordinator at NCDS, Assistant Commandant at the Training and Doctrine Command, and Deputy Director-General of Training at GHQ”.

His leadership in these roles has played a pivotal role in shaping military training strategies, enhancing operational readiness, and strengthening Ghana’s defense forces to effectively address contemporary security threats.

His strategic approach ensures that the military remains well-prepared and adaptable in an evolving security landscape.

Furthermore, his exceptional ability to blend military principles with legal expertise distinguishes him as a valuable asset in national security affairs. 

This unique combination enables him to navigate complex security frameworks, ensure compliance with legal standards, and contribute to the development of policies that uphold both operational efficiency and the rule of law.

A Seasoned Leader in Defense and Security

Beyond his administrative and training roles, Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono has an extensive background in peacekeeping operations. 

His experience includes serving as Deputy Force Provost Marshall and Officer in Charge of Special Investigations at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) headquarters.

With expertise in counterterrorism, strategic defense management, and operational training, he has made significant contributions to military leadership and security strategy, both in Ghana and on the international stage. 

His vast experience in military operations, legal affairs, and strategic security planning makes him a well-respected figure in defense circles.

His appointment to the GPHA comes at a crucial time when Ghana’s ports require strong leadership to address security challenges, enhance efficiency, and streamline port operations.

His expertise in security management and strategic planning is expected to reinforce the efficiency and competitiveness of Ghana’s maritime sector.

As Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono assumes his new role at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, he is expected to leverage his leadership, discipline, and strategic management expertise to enhance the efficiency, security, and overall effectiveness of Ghana’s ports. 

His extensive experience in military operations and security planning positions him well to strengthen port safety measures, streamline operational procedures, and improve regulatory compliance within the maritime sector.
