Ghanaian gospel artist, Great Ampong has opined that the current system of democracy is not helping Ghana and therefore recommends that some changes should be made.

The veteran gospel artist made this assertion during an interview on an Accra-based radio station where he noted that there should be some form of an amendment to Ghana’s Constitution to allow for some form of military rule in the country. According to him, the people of Ghana respond better to Military rule than democracy, hence the need to introduce some form of military rule in the country.

“For a country that borrows money to produce songs to tell grown-up men and women not urinate indiscriminately and dump rubbish on the streets, it’s imperative that we introduce Military rule. So that, the attitudes of the people will be shaped. Democracy was not meant for Ghana. We need to go back to Military rule by amending some portions of our constitution”.

Recalling the early days of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, Ampong indicated that there were several changes instituted by late former President Rawlings and therefore introducing some form of Military rule can go a long way to help Ghana.

“There was a day my uncle who was the District Chief Executive (DCE) of our town did something wrong. Can you imagine that Papa Jay came to our town to discipline him? Yes, this is the kind of rule we need. So that, everyone will do the right thing”.

Great Ampong

He also noted that currently, the level of corruption in the system has become worrying such that people who are tasked by the President to perform a particular duty fail to do it but squander funds meant for the particular task. Apart from corruption, he reiterated that the attitudes of the Ghanaian people can be shaped if the Military is left to shape the people in the country.

“The corruption is so much in Ghana. A murderer can request to see his girlfriend while still in jail and the court grants it. Meanwhile, a thief who stole a goat has been sentenced to 6years in prison. This is just not right. We, as a nation, need to wake up and fight against this. If we have very stringent laws then certain things will not happen… The youth is currently getting tired of this corruption and if we don’t pray hard, they will rise and this will be something different”.

Great Apmpong

It can be recalled that Great Ampong said he has considered the idea of moving into politics if it is a direction from God. The singer indicated that he will gladly accept to stand for the position of an MP in his hometown, Twifo Ati Mokwa constituency in the Central region.

“If it’s the will of God that I should stand for the position of an MP, I’ll gladly accept it”.
