NPP’s Obsession with Sammy Gyamfi Called Out by Suhuyini

Hamza Suhuyini of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) communication team has come out strongly in defence of its National Communications Officer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, following calls for his removal over a controversial cash donation made to Nana Agradaa.

Suhuyini accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of orchestrating a campaign to undermine Gyamfi’s effectiveness in office and silence his unrelenting criticism of the party’s abysmal governing record.

In his remarks, Suhuyini alleged that the NPP had been preoccupied with the political disruption caused to their government by Gyamfi since 2017, describing him as a persistent adversary they failed to neutralise.

“And I can understand the fixation on Sammy Gyamfi because whichever way you look at it, he’s the NPP’s number one problem… He knows that. He is a thorn in their flesh even up to date. So they are looking for ways to make it impossible for him to continue to do what he’s been doing”

The comments follow mounting criticism over Gyamfi’s decision to offer a cash donation to the controversial chief priestess-turned-evangelist, Nana Agradaa, an act that has triggered petitions and demands for accountability.

However, according to Suhuyini, the outrage from the NPP is hypocritical and selective, especially considering the party’s own track record in office.

Gyamfi Reprimanded

Amid the public discourse, Suhuyini revealed that President John Dramani Mahama had already addressed the matter internally. He indicated that the President had taken a clear position on the incident involving Gyamfi and had directed him to remain focused on his official responsibilities.

“The gentleman has been reprimanded and has been asked to go and concentrate on his job – and I can assure you that the Sammy Gyamfi that I know is actually concentrating on his job as we speak”

According to him, Gyamfi has complied with the directive and remains committed to his role as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the GoldBod, despite the increasing pressure and public scrutiny.

Suhuyini suggested that the attacks against Gyamfi are not isolated but part of a calculated effort to discredit a formidable opponent.

Allegations of Hypocrisy

Turning his attention to the NPP’s posture on corruption and accountability, Suhuyini questioned the party’s sudden moral awakening. He accused them of double standards, citing past instances where party officials were implicated in corruption but faced no internal disciplinary action or petitions.

“Be rest assured, as for the petitions, they will fly. Many petitions will be activated by next week but in the end we shall see those who will be left standing in the interest of accountability”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communication Team Member

Suhuyini was particularly critical of the silence that surrounded former sanitation minister Cecilia Dapaah’s unexplained cash holdings, asking why no formal petition was filed by the NPP in her case.

“Why did they not file a petition against her?” he asked, insisting that the party had no credibility on matters of accountability. He also recalled multiple controversies under the Akufo-Addo administration that failed to trigger any disciplinary action within the NPP.

From the wealth of former Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, to allegations against deputy finance and communications appointees, Suhuyini accused the NPP of defending its members instead of pursuing justice.

“Their anti-galamsey task force chairman was caught red handed on tape, receiving money at the presidency. Their leader then and President of the Republic of Ghana, cleared him”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communication Team Member

He cited further examples involving the deputy finance minister allegedly negotiating on behalf of the then-flag bearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, all of which, he noted, did not provoke any internal investigations or formal complaints.

“That is their record and so when it comes to issues of corruption, I’m surprised that they even have the temerity to begin to run commentary”

Hamza Suhuyini, NDC Communication Team Member

The NDC maintains that the current wave of petitions against Gyamfi is politically motivated and part of a broader NPP strategy to neutralise effective governance.

With President Mahama backing Gyamfi to focus on his mandate, the government appears poised to challenge any formal proceedings mounted in the name of accountability.
