Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, one half of the iconic duo P-Square, has opened up about the toll that fame has taken on his life, despite once praying for the spotlight, he now shies away from.

The veteran singer reflected on celebrity life after spending nearly three decades in the music industry, highlighting the lengths he goes to avoid being spotted by fans in public.

“Before, we used to pray for fame but now when I go out or when I travel I cover my face with a facemask, a face cap and even sunglasses to avoid being spotted.”

Peter admitted that while he is grateful for the success he and his estranged brother have achieved, he now yearns for a level of normalcy that fame has denied him.

He highlighted how much he misses being able to buy things by himself, especially hot roadside food like akara.

“Most of us celebrities have parts of our lives that we don’t enjoy. There are some days that I’d be driving and I’d want to stop at the road side and buy food like hot akara but I’d have to send someone, to avoid being spotted. But by the time the person goes, buys the slats and gets back, it’s no longer hot. I miss being able to eat akara bread and co, ABC, that’s the best burger ever. I still like that life, but I miss privacy.”

The Nigerian singer and former P-Square member stirred fresh reactions online after sharing a reflective message about trust, family, and loyalty.

The 43-year-old artist was a guest on a recent show where he was asked to pen a letter to his younger self. In his heartfelt note, he offered life advice shaped by his personal experiences over the years.

Peter Okoye urged his younger self to be cautious about trust, believe in his abilities, and understand the difference between family by blood and family built on loyalty.

“Dear young Peter, don’t trust too much. Believe in yourself. Nobody loves you when you love yourself. Family is blood related, but real family is loyalty.”

His remarks have caught the attention of fans, especially as they come while his family remains in the news. Just recently, Peter filed a lawsuit against his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, over an alleged N1.3 billion fraud case and took the witness stand against him in court.

Two months back, Peter threw a subtle shade at his family as he sent a message to the general public, stating that one shouldn’t allow family to be the reason they’re drowning in silence.

He noted how he had done for over 20 years, and it had cost him everything. Peter noted how love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family doesn’t steal from one.

The singer’s candid reflections have sparked conversations online about family dynamics, loyalty, and navigating personal relationships in the public eye.

Some of the social media users shared words of encouragement, while others blasted the singer.

“Family is all about loyalty, if there’s no loyalty there is no family!!!”

“Imagine having family and loyalty all in one, absolute bliss! May family not betray us.”

“He should rest already since they’re in court. I don’t understand the constant need for social media validation.”

Chinsy_ny

“Manipulative to the core. How can a whole family hate one person? Something is not right.”

Clemzfire

“Family isn’t whose bloodline you carry. It is who you love and who loves you back in return.”
