Accra Hearts of Oak has announced the appointment of Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as the new head coach of the club going into the 2025/26 football season.

The experienced tactician, widely respected in Ghanaian football circles, has signed a two-year contract with the Phobians, with the club confirming that his appointment takes immediate effect.

Dramani returns to the Ghana Premier League with a wealth of experience and an impressive coaching résumé, having previously led arch-rivals Asante Kotoko to back-to-back league titles.

Dramani’s immediate challenge will be to prepare Hearts of Oak for the high-stakes 2025 President’s Cup clash against his former club, Asante Kotoko. The ceremonial fixture, scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium, offers the 58-year-old coach an early opportunity to assert his authority and begin his tenure on a positive note.

A Proven Winner

Mas-Ud Didi Dramani is no stranger to the pressures of managing one of Ghana’s most iconic football clubs. During his time at Asante Kotoko from 2012 to 2013, he guided the Porcupine Warriors to consecutive Ghana Premier League titles, establishing himself as one of the most accomplished local coaches in recent history.

His success at Kotoko earned him national recognition and opened doors for further roles on the international stage.

Following his exit from Kotoko in 2013, Dramani transitioned into development and technical roles, most recently serving as Head of Football at the renowned Right to Dream Academy.

His time at the academy further sharpened his expertise in youth development and player mentorship.

Dramani also played a key role in Ghana’s technical team during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, providing tactical insight and support to the senior national team, the Black Stars.

In addition, he has managed the Black Galaxies; Ghana’s national team composed of home-based players gaining further experience at the national level.

Despite his impressive track record, this is Dramani’s return to top-flight club coaching after more than a decade away from the Ghana Premier League.

His last stint in the domestic league was with Kotoko, and many observers will be keen to see how he adapts to the current competitive landscape of Ghanaian football.

Phobia Rebuild

Hearts of Oak are hoping Dramani’s experience and leadership can spark a turnaround after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign. The Phobians finished fourth in the Ghana Premier League and were eliminated in the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup, concluding the season without silverware for a second consecutive year.

The club has struggled with consistency and managerial stability in recent seasons, cycling through several coaches with limited success.

Dramani’s appointment is expected to bring much-needed tactical discipline, player development, and long-term vision to the club’s structure.

In a statement, Hearts of Oak expressed confidence in Dramani’s ability to return the club to the summit of Ghanaian football. “Coach Dramani brings a unique blend of experience, success, and developmental insight that aligns with our ambitions. We believe he is the right person to lead us into a new era of progress,” the club said.

With a decorated past and a clear mandate for the future, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani now takes on one of the most high-pressure roles in Ghanaian football.

The coming months will test his ability to blend Hearts’ current squad with his tactical ideas while energising a fan base hungry for trophies and dominance.

For Dramani, the opportunity to lead another of Ghana’s traditional clubs marks both a return and a reinvention with, his arrival signalling a potential dawn of a new, more stable chapter for Hearts of Oak.
