Afrobeats Singer, Davido has shared how the tragic loss of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, in 2022 was a life-changing experience.
Ifeanyi drowned in a pool at Davido’s residence in Banana Island, Lagos State, in October of that year.
Davido expressed pride in how he and his wife, Chioma, handled the tragedy and bounced back.
The Afrobeats star revealed that the experience gave him a new perspective on life and his career, allowing him to refocus on his goals.

He also shared that their strength during this difficult time has become a source of inspiration for many, stating that people have approached him on several occasions to thank him for inspiring them to stay strong during hard times.
“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back on my career gave me a refocus on how I wanted to move forward. It changed my life. I know how many who randomly come to me at the airport to tell me how my strength has inspired them in hard times.
“I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we have twins. They are big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge.”

Davido Pays Tribute to Sound Sultan in New Music Video

The Afrobeats superstar paid tribute to the late music legend Sound Sultan with a heartfelt nod in his latest music video.
Davido is making headlines with the release of his new music video for the song 10 Kilo, a vibrant and celebratory tribute to body confidence and femininity.
Released on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the video, which is part of his acclaimed 5IVE album, has also been praised for its moving homage to the late music icon, Sound Sultan.
The music video, directed by the celebrated Director Pink, combines Davido’s signature charisma with a joyful, colourful aesthetic.
It features a diverse cast of women, celebrating various body types and cultures, reinforcing the song’s message of body positivity.
The video notably includes a subtle but powerful tribute to Sound Sultan, an artist Davido has long admired.
Sound Sultan, born Olanrewaju Fasasi, was a beloved figure in the Nigerian music industry, known for his socially conscious lyrics and ability to fuse various genres, including Afrobeats, hip-hop, and R&B.
A multi-talented artist, he was famous for timeless hits like Jagbajantis and Mathematics. He won numerous awards throughout his career, including Musician of the Year at the Headies.
His untimely death in July 2021 from angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma sent shockwaves through the Nigerian creative community, leaving a legacy of innovation and activism.
This is not the first time Davido has used his platform to honour fellow artists. He has previously paid tribute to other late icons, including his tribute to the late rapper DaGrin with a feature of his song Skelewu, demonstrating his deep respect for the history and figures of Nigerian music.
The video’s release comes on the heels of another significant life event for the 4x Grammy-nominated artist: his opulent white wedding to his longtime love, Chioma, in Miami.
The joyous and celebratory tone of the 10 Kilo video seems to reflect this happy new chapter in the star’s life.
