Hollard Ghana’s Asomdwee MSME Insurance Wins Global Impact Award for Empowering Small Businesses

Hollard Ghana has once again put the nation’s financial and insurance sector on the global map. The company’s pioneering Asomdwee MSME Insurance has been recognised with an Impact Award at the 2025 Tokio Marine Group Awards.

This honour highlights the solution’s exceptional role in strengthening the resilience and sustainability of Ghana’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The award ceremony will take place in Tokyo on October 14, 2025, bringing together leading insurance innovators from across the globe.

The recognition affirms Hollard Ghana’s commitment to creating tailored products that go beyond traditional insurance, addressing the unique vulnerabilities faced by small businesses.

MSMEs form the heartbeat of Ghana’s economy, accounting for the bulk of employment and driving innovation. Yet, these enterprises are constantly exposed to financial shocks, natural disasters, and unforeseen business disruptions. Many operate without adequate safety nets, leaving them vulnerable to risks that can wipe out years of progress.

Recognising this gap, Hollard Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), developed Asomdwee MSME Insurance. The product offers comprehensive protection covering employee welfare, permanent disability, critical illness, death cover, fire, burglary, third-party liability, and other business risks. Its design ensures that even the smallest enterprises can access affordable, flexible, and relevant insurance packages.

An Innovative Approach to MSME Resilience

Unlike traditional insurance policies, Asomdwee MSME Insurance is structured in bronze, silver, and gold packages, allowing businesses to choose the level of coverage that matches their operational size and financial capacity. This tailored approach ensures that MSMEs do not face a “one-size-fits-all” model, but instead benefit from policies aligned with their unique realities.

Patience Akyianu, Group CEO of Hollard Ghana, expressed pride in the recognition.

“This award affirms the difference we are making in strengthening the backbone of Ghana’s economy, our MSMEs. With Asomdwee, we set out to remove barriers that have long left small businesses exposed to risks they cannot recover from. It’s about enabling entrepreneurs to thrive, safeguarding livelihoods, and building resilience for the future.”

Her words underline Hollard’s mission of not just offering protection but empowering small businesses to grow with confidence.

Global Applause for Local Impact

The Tokio Marine Group Awards, renowned for celebrating businesses that embody ethical leadership and customer-focused innovation, selected Hollard Ghana’s Asomdwee product after a rigorous evaluation process overseen by Tokio Marine Group CEO, Masahiro Koike.

Pravin Kalpagé, CEO of Hollard International, emphasized the broader importance of the award:

“We understand that MSMEs face different pressures compared with larger businesses. Our solutions are designed to address these specific challenges to enable MSMEs to confidently navigate business and life’s uncertainties. This recognition reflects our commitment to driving resilience not only in Ghana but across Africa.”

By winning on this global stage, Hollard Ghana has shown that local innovation can have continental and international relevance.

The partnership between Hollard Ghana and the Ghana Enterprises Agency has been central to the success of Asomdwee MSME Insurance. Through this collaboration, the insurance solution has reached deeper into Ghana’s business community, providing much-needed financial protection to enterprises that otherwise lacked such opportunities.

This model demonstrates how public-private partnerships can address critical challenges in emerging economies. By joining hands, Hollard and GEA have crafted a scalable and impactful framework that other African nations may replicate to safeguard their MSME sectors.

Expanding Access and Influence

For Hollard Ghana, the recognition in Tokyo is not just a reward—it is a call to action. The company is committed to expanding the reach of Asomdwee MSME Insurance across Ghana and, in the long term, across other African markets. The broader vision is to enable every small business, regardless of size or financial strength, to access a safety net that secures livelihoods, fosters innovation, and stabilises local economies.

Kalpagé captured this vision succinctly saying, “We want to play our part in enabling resilience and the sustainability of MSMEs in Ghana, and across the continent. Partnerships like the one we have with the Ghana Enterprises Agency remain central to our strategy.”

Hollard Ghana’s Asomdwee MSME Insurance securing the Impact Award at the 2025 Tokio Marine Group Awards is a powerful validation of the company’s mission. It is more than an accolade for Hollard—it is a win for Ghana’s MSMEs, the very backbone of the national economy.

By providing tailored, accessible, and comprehensive coverage, Asomdwee has become a game-changer in the insurance landscape. As Hollard Ghana celebrates this international honour, small businesses across the country can look forward to a safer and more resilient future.
