The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has expressed confidence that he represents the party’s best chance to reclaim power in the 2028 general elections. The team insists that Agyepong embodies the unity, credibility, and renewal the NPP urgently needs to reposition itself for victory.
Paul Abdul Rahman Issah Dowuona, Communications Director for Mr. Agyepong’s campaign said the NPP is in dire need of rejuvenation after its 2024 electoral defeat, and that Mr. Agyepong is the only candidate capable of rebuilding the party’s strength across all fronts.
He urged delegates to rally behind his candidacy in the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. He stressed that the 2028 election will demand unity and focus rather than division and complacency.
“The NPP, as we say, needs rejuvenation. We need to change the way we do things. Kwabena Agyepong is the one who can do that. That is what we should look at. Kwabena Agyepong is the most viable candidate. We’re in this to win.

According to the campaign’s Communications Director, the NPP’s internal healing and unity are key to its revival, and he described Mr. Agyepong as a principled leader who can reconnect the party to its founding values and restore discipline among its ranks.
Mr. Dowuona also warned against what he described as the “monetisation of politics,” arguing that it has become a destructive force in Ghana’s democracy. Having called it a “cancer,” that Mr. Agyepong’s campaign wants to remove from the body politic in Ghana, he told NPP delegates to look beyond money when its time to vote for the party’s next leaders
“Look at who can deliver the job,” he cautioned, maintaining that Ghana’s political culture has become overly transactional, undermining merit-based leadership selection. He said the Agyepong campaign is running a message-driven, not money-driven, movement anchored on competence, loyalty, and service to party and country.
Polls Do Not Define Elections
Mr. Dowuona also dismissed recent polls that placed other aspirants ahead of his candidate in the NPP race, saying such surveys often fail to reflect grassroots realities, especially in the early stages of internal contests.
“If polls were what determines Presidents, then Donald Trump wouldn’t have won 2016, he wouldn’t have won 2024. Allan Lichtman, who is claimed to be the Nostradamus of polls with his seven keys, said Kamala Harris was going to win; it didn’t happen. Donald Trump won”

He underscored the limitations of polling projections by noting that some poll results are influenced by timing, especially when they are conducted immediately after a rival aspirant’s constituency visit.
“If one of our opponents goes to a constituency and the moment he leaves there a pollster calls them, there is a high likelihood that they would say, ‘oh, we’ll vote for him,’ because his message is the freshest. Maybe our campaign has not yet gone there
“So our argument is that by the 31st of January, by which time we would have crisscrossed the whole country and we would have met all the delegates, by that time when you poll, everybody will be saying Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong”

His optimism, he added, is bolstered by the fact that the campaign is focused on personal engagement and grassroots mobilisation rather than media narratives or external forecasts.
The latest internal party polls, conducted in September 2025, placed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the lead with 47 per cent support among delegates, followed by businessman Kennedy Agyapong. However, a significant portion of delegates remained undecided – a factor Mr. Dowuona believes will favour Agyepong as the campaign intensifies in the months ahead.
Mr. Dowuona reiterated that Agyepong’s candidacy stands for discipline, competence, and unity – the same principles that once defined the NPP’s national appeal.
He said the campaign remains committed to promoting these ideals as the party prepares for what could be one of its most defining primaries in recent history.
